SWHS and MHS students attend SGA Conference

The 3rd District SGA Conference was held Friday, February 23rd at Alabama Southern Community College. The theme for the conference was "Leading with a Dream." Approximately 145 students were in attendance chaperoned by their sponsors. Marengo High and Sweet Water Schools sponsors Mrs. Mary Williams and Mrs. Vera Harris were responsible for planning and organizing the activities. Students came from Wilcox Central, Amelia Love Johnson, Livingston High, Marengo and Sweet Water High Schools.
Special thanks to Dr. Johnson of ASCC and the Specialists of Educational Talent Search. Several individuals were invited to meet with the students and provide rap sessions and activities. The team leaders were: Mr. Kim Grocholl, Aflac provided activities on "Beating the Odds"; Mr. Jim Pope ARI Coach focused on "Reaching the Mark"; Mrs. Kiki Moore and Mrs. Kim Smith-Talent Search Project specialists implemented unique activities n "Effective Leaders." Mayor Sheldon Day of Thomasville opened the program with a warm meaningful message and welcome. Mr. LaBarron Mack-UniServ Director for District 20, keynote speaker enhanced the motivational level of the students on becoming true leaders. Special thanks to the following businesses that provided door prizes: Alabama Power Company, A J's Department Store, Sweet Water State Bank, The Book Nook, Dozier Gift Shop, Burger King, Ryan's Family Steak House, Tim Watts Jewelers, Forget-Me-Not Gift Shop, First United Security Bank, Cato's, Merchants Bank, Radio Shack, Jostens, Ace Hardware, Southern Gift & Tackle Shop, Record & Sound Shop, McDonald's Restaurant, Pizza Pro and Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
