Tigers defeat Warriors at The Hank
In the game Thomasville rode a 10 hit attack to victory with Alex Buford, Jake Overstreet, and Andrew Parten leading the way with two hits each. Joining them with one hit were; Reeves Bozeman, Justin Gilchrist, J. B. LeNoir and Paul Noble. The RBIs were distributed equally with Bozeman, Gilchrist, Overstreet, and Parten all picking up one. Parten led the way in extrabase hits with two doubles. On the mound Paul Noble, who was making his second start for Thomasville during the Classic, picked up the win. During his four innings of work he allowed two runs on five hits, three walks, and one hit batsman while striking out five. Andrew Parten followed Noble and worked two innings in which he allowed one run on two hits while striking out one. Jake Overstreet closed the game, allowing one hit and striking out one in one shutout inning
Jake Overstreet, who was called on to pitch the final inning in the game for Thomasville, was charged with the loss. In his less than one inning of work he allowed three unearned runs on one hit and one hit batsman. Prior to his stint on the mound the Tigers had received five innings of work from starter Paul Noble and one inning from Reeves Bozeman. Noble allowed two runs on four hits, two walks and three hit batsmen while striking out three during his time on the bill while Bozeman gave up one run on two hits while striking out one. At the plate Alex Buford led the Tiger attack in the loss with two hits, while six other Tigers including; Jeremy Borden, Reeves Bozeman, Justin Gilchrist, Paul Noble, Bradley Parnell and Justin Smith all had one hit. Noble was the RBI leader for the Tigers with two followed by Borden and Parnell with one each. Bozeman had the only extra base hit with a double. Thomasville's first win of the season and of the Classic came a couple of days later when a Wednesday rainout forced the Tigers to play 5A UMS-Wright on Thursday, February 22. Continuing to play at the Baldwin County site the Tigers over came an early 1-0 deficit to the Bulldogs to post an 8-6 win. Alex Buford, who started on the mound for Thomasville, pitched five strong innings to pick up the win. In his five innings he allowed four runs on three hits, one walk and one hit batsman while striking out three. Kenny Sanders followed Buford for one inning giving up two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out one. Bradley Pamell worked the final inning in the game allowing one walk and striking out three to pick up a save. Over on offense Jake Overstreet led the way for the Tigers collecting three hits. Joining him in the Tigers' hit parade were Alex Buford and Justin Smith with two hits each and Paul Noble, Bradley Parnell and Andrew Parten with one hit apiece. Parnell led the team in RBIs with three followed by Noble, Overstreet and Parten with one each. In the extra-base hit category Parnell picked up his first and the team's first homerun of the year while Buford, Overstreet and Smith each had a double.
With the Classic in the books for another year, the Tigers were slated for a five game home stand beginning with their home opener on Tuesday, February 27 against Washington County. Following that the Choctaw County Tigers were due in for a twin bill on Thursday, March 1 beginning at 4:00 PM. The busy week is expected to end with a three team round robin match-up on Saturday, March 3, when the Citronelle Wildcats and the T. R. Miller Tigers pay a visit to Thomasville. On Saturday's docket Thomasville plays Citronelle at 12:00 PM and T. R. Miller at 5:00 PM. Sandwiched between will be a game between the two visitors.
