The Sweet Water Bulldogs came from behind to pull off an 8-7 win over the visiting 2A American Christian Academy Patriots this past Saturday, February 24. In the game, which was the second game of a double header between the two teams, Sweet Water scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to overcome a 7-5 deficit and post the win. The loss by the three time defending state champion Patriots was the first in six games this season.

Drew Luker led the Bulldog hitting attack in the game with three hits followed by Scottie Nelson with two. Others contributing one hit each to the cause were; Heath Hill, Dominic Holt and Anthony Landrum. Holt, Luker and Nelson all recorded two RBIs in the game while Landrum had one. Holt had the only extrabase hit with a double.

On the mound Heath Hill started for the Bulldogs and worked five innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three. Drew Luker who picked up the win in the game, came on in the sixth and pitched the final two shutout innings in which he retired all six batters he faced. Two of the outs he recorded were strike outs.

The Bulldogs weren't so fortunate in the first game of the day, falling to the Patriots 7-2.

In that one, the Patriots, behind some dominant pitching held the Bulldogs to only two hits and two late runs to pick up the win. Heath Hill and Anthony Landrum had the Bulldogs only hits with Hill knocking in both of the team's runs.

Ty Glass, who started for the Bulldogs on the mound, was charged with the loss. In his six innings of work he allowed seven runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six. Drew Luker pitched the final inning walking two and striking out two.

On tap next for the Bulldogs are games this week against 5A Citronelle, 3A Clarke County, 4A Jackson and 2A Leroy in the Tombigbee Classic.
