Grove Hill adds support for Twin Rivers group The Grove Hill Town Council agreed to pledge $10,000 a year for the next five years to support the Twin Rivers Economic Development Partnership during Monday's meeting. Chip Harrigan, Twin Rivers chairman, told council members the organization was hoping to secure commitments of $300,000 a year, for the next five years, with half coming from government entities and the other half coming from the public. Twin Rivers is a joint venture between Clarke and Choctaw counties to improve development in the area. "We will work with the industrial development board, the town councils, the county. None of us will be able to do it by ourselves. We all need to pull together," he explained. "We consider anyone who takes part an investor and we will keep you informed." Council member Pat McGraw brought up that Clarke County already had an industrial development board. "We support them too. Won't we be double dipping? You do the same thing," she said. Harrigan responded that the county supported the industrial board, but had also agreed to invest $50,000 a year in Twin Rivers.
Previoiusly, the group requested continued support from Thomasville, but the mayor and council have twice tabled the matter pending a review of the city's spending on economic development efforts.
