Willie Grey Etheridge

Willie Grey Etheridge, age 91, of Woodhave Manor, Demopolis, passed away Monday, 5, 2007 at Specialty Hospital of Meridian in Meridian, Miss. She was born October 11, 1915 in Vredenburgh. She was a homemaker, a long time resident of Nanafalia and a member of Nanafalia Baptist Church.

Graveside funeral services were held at Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James Halliday officiating.

She is survived by: son, Billy Etheridge of Nanafalia; 4 daughters, Helen (Robert) Sutton of Hayneville; Jean Jenkins of Butler; Joyce Duval of Coden; Dianne Taylor of Demopolis; 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Theodore Etheridge and son, Theodore Etheridge, Jr.

Thomas Wesley Hedrick

Thomas Wesley Hedrick, age 68, died Sunday, March 11, 2007 at his home after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Scott officiating. Interment in the Demopolis Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Lindley Hedrick; his parents, Willard Lindley Hedrick and Ruth Adlyse Acker Hedrick and a sister, Mary Ada Hedrick; sisterin law, Opal Booen.

Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Gail Phillips Hedrick of Demopolis. One daughter, Amelia Lynn (Gary) Ulrich of Wetumpka; Two sons, Eric (Tracey) Roman of Demopolis and Lucas Chad (Deborah) Hedrick of Gallion; daughter-in-law, Nita Hedrick of Eufaula. Fourteen grandchildren, Summer Roman (Robbie) Carroll, Hayden Roman, Hannah Roman, Cade Daily Hedrick, Thomas Ulrich, Phillip Ulrich, Ryan Hedrick, Lauren Hedrick, Trey Hedrick, Josh Stevenson, Beck Yon, Jamie Roman, Jacob Nored, Shawn Grady; mother-in-law, Velma Phillips; Brothers and Sistersin law; Ruth and Billy Symon, Julia and Jim Daily, Ronnie and Sharon Phillips, Dean and Sandra Booen; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Bert Hedrick, Jr., Jerry Pate, Kenny Harless, Joe Bedsole, Wayne Baker and Dean Booen.

Honorary Pallbearers were Dr. Charles Gross and Lee, Dr. Paul Ketcham and Dr. Keith Dismukes Staff, Dr. Ann Lewis and John, Dr. Grurich, Westside Baptist Church Family, Randy Hannah, Frankie Hannah, Charles Hedrick, Amedysis Home Health Care, Asera Care Hospice, Dr. Salinas.

He was born in Columbus, Miss. and a resident of Demopolis for 33 years and a retired employee of Gulf States Paper with 38 years of service where he served as a chemical engineer. He also was a member of Westside Baptist Church and retired from the Alabama National Guard after more than 20 years of service.

James Carl Hill

James Carl Hill, age 68, of Linden, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Vaughn Regional Medical Center in Selma. He was born August 29, 1938, in Tallapoosa County. He was a paper mill supervisor and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Linden.

Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church on Thursday, march 8, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Hand and Rev. Andy Mims officiating. Burial was at New Octagon Cemetery, in Linden.

He is survived by: wife, Rita R. Hill; mother, Florence Hill both of Linden; 3 sons, Michael C. (Yvonne) Hill; Todd B. (Lynn) Hill both of Linden; Chris (Deanna) Norris; daughter, Tina Etheredge both of Livingston; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 17007 US Highway 43 South, Linden, Al 36748.

Active Pallbearers were: Reese Barkley, Kenneth Buckalew, Pete Bedsole, James Allen Glass, Dwain Glass, Alan Sharpe and Bob Nichols as alternate.

Mack Charles Mott

Mack Charles Mott, age 81, a forester of Thomasville, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Springhill Memorial Hospital in Mobile. He was born November 17, 1925, in Fulton. He was a member of Thomasville Baptist Church.

Private graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Choctaw Corner Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at Thomasville Baptist Church on Sunday March 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Robert Kirkland officiating.

He is survived by: wife, Jean Claire "Jinx" Mott of Thomasville; 2 brothers, LaVerne Mott of Fulton; Roger Mott of Pensacola, Fla.; sister, Maris Dauphin of Clifton Ferry; 2 adopted daughters, Reta Galbraith of Dublin Ga. and Tina Grisset of Pensacola, Fla.

Mamie Crockett-Philan

Mamie Crockett-Philan, age 101, of Thomasville died March 5, 2007, at her residence. She was a retired homemaker and former midwife.

Funeral services were Monday, March 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thomasville Church of God in Christ. Elder Ricky Allen officiating. Burial in Cedar Point Cemetery in West Bend.

She is survived by: four daughters, Arizona Pace of Tuskegee; Ruth Turner of Prichard; Mamie Allen of Citronelle; Mary Thigpen of Thomasville; 35 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 36 great great grandchildren.

Margean Ida Singleton

Margean Ida Singleton, age 83, of Thomasville, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007 at her home. She was born February 2, 1924, in Sweet Water. She was a former department store clerk and a member of Thomasville Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at Thomasville Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Robert Kirkland officiating. Burial was inc Evergreen Memorial Gardens, in Thomasville.

She us survived by: son, Hendley Donald (Sherian) Newton of Camden; two daughters, Linda Singleton (Larry) Knight; Debbie Singleton (Johnny) Duncan both of Thomasville; sister, Cawthon Tucker of Demopolis; three brothers, Alvin Tucker of Millry; Bly Tucker of Sweet Water; Billy Tucker of Demopolis; sister, Nan Davis of Sweet Water; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Gus Edward Thompson

Gus Edward Thompson "Shake", age 85, of Thomasville died March 5, 2007 at his residence. He was a retired plumber and veteran of World War II.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 10, 2007 11:00 a.m. at New greater First Baptist Church Rev. Carlton Hogue officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by: wife, Mattie Thompson of Memphis, Tenn.; four daughters, Mary J. Robinson, Evelyn S. Thompson, Lenord G. Peasant and Martha Thames, all of Selma; step-daughter, Valorie Taylor of Thomasville; and step-son, Earnest Rowden of Selma; two sisters, Helen Edwards of Mobile and Annie Thompson of Chicago; special friend, Lura M. Taylor of Thomasville; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Winfried Amelia Voltz

Winfried Amelia Voltz, age 57, of Arlington died March 4, 2007 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. She was born July 17, 1949. She was a homemaker.

Funeral services were March 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Arlington, Minister Ferry Nye officiated. Burial followed in the GoodHope Cemetery in Arlington.

She is survived by: daughter, Maggie Huffman of Montgomery; six sons, Benjamin Kimbrough, Ronald Williams of Montgomery; Michael Voltz of Evansville, Ind.; William Voltz of Atlanta , Ga.; Christopher Voltz and Demetrius Voltz both of Montgomery; 12 grandchildren.

Rachel Caroline Smyly Watts

Rachel Caroline Smyly Watts, age 88, of Linden, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Marengo Nursing Home in Linden. She was born August 11, 1918, in Vineland. She was a retired school teacher and a member of Linden United Methodist Church in Linden.

Funeral services were held at Linden United Methodist Church on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dennis Carlson officiating. Burial was at Laurel Cemetery, in Dixons Mills.

She is survived by: daughter, Carol Watts Ruzie; son-in-law, Ed Ruzie both of Prospect, Ky.; grandson, Joseph (Hallett) Ruzie of Birmingham; granddaughter, Sarah Caroline Ruzie and grandson, John Ruzie both of Prospect, Ky.

She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Watts.

Active pallbearers were: Terry Smyly, Ed Vines, Barry Hunt, James Ruzie, Bill Weaver, John Weaver.

Honorary Pallbearers were: The Marengo Nursing Home Staff.
