A support group for me
Arthur McLean
Iheard a story on the radio the other day about a group forming in some European country that is going to start advocating for better treatment of non morning people in the workplace.

Now this is something I could really get behind.

Hello, my name is Arthur, and I'm a night owl. "Hello Arthur."

As we all know, the world divides itself into two very distinct groups, morning people and non morning people, or late risers, or night owls, call us what you want.

Where some folks pop their eyes open somewhere around the crack of dawn and are ready to greet the day as soon as their feet hit the floor, there are those of us who take considerably longer to get the engine warmed in the morning.

Some of us may not do our best work until later in the day, and in some cases, it may be late evening before the creative juices and problem-solving skills really start to kick into gear.

I know that of which I speak.

Finally there's a group that's all about my needs. And why shouldn't there be. Heck there's groups for darned near everything else in the world, why can't those of us who'd like to ban alarm clocks have one too?

So far, the group is only located in Finland or some other obscenely cold European nation, but I'm betting it will spread, bringing the message of the late riser to the world and making people see our value.

Their mission, as I understand it from the report, is to convince these big-time clockobsessed business CEOs and whatnot to take our special needs into consideration.

After all, think of all the great contributions late risers have made to the world. I'm willing to bet a solid 80 percent of artists are late risers. At least 99 percent of musicians would have to be. Think of what kind of world this would be without music.

I do have one problem, however. They are calling themselves the B Group, as in the early risers are the A group and the late risers are the B group. Hold on just a minute. That sounds like we're taking second place, not just getting started a little later in the day.

We definitely need to come up with a better name. But I'll have to sleep on it.
