The Thomasville Tiger varsity baseball team traveled to Monroeville and defeated the Monroe County Tigers 17-8 this past Friday, March 9, in the first Area 1 match-up for the two schools. In the game, Thomasville jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first four innings and appeared to be in position to put the game away. Monroe County would not simply go away though and posted five runs in the bottom of the fourth to put themselves right back in the game. That's as close as it would get however as Thomasville continued to score every inning while holding their host scoreless in the fifth and sixth before allowing them three more in the bottom of the seventh.
Bradley Parnell started the game on the mound for Thomasville and picked up his second win of the season to even his record at 2 and 2. In his six innings of work he allowed five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out 11. Andrew Parten pitched the final inning and allowed three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two.
On offense Thomasville pounded out 13 hits led by a four hit performance from Jake Overstreet. Joining him with two hits each were Alex Buford, Reeves Bozeman and Bradley Parnell while Paul Noble, Andrew Parten and Justin Smith contributed one hit each to the attack. In the extrabase hit category, Overstreet had two doubles, Bozeman had a double and Noble hit his first homerun of the season. Noble was the RBI leader with three followed by Overstreet with two; Jeremy Borden, Buford, Justin Gilchrist and Parten with one.

The Tigers had a short turn around and were back in action on Saturday, March 10, when they played the Andalusia Bulldogs and the Enterprise Wildcats in a three team round robin double header. The Tigers played the Bulldogs first and came up on the short end of a 4-3 decision. It was the failure of the Tiger defense to make the routine plays and the inability of the offense to drive in runners in scoring position that proved to be the difference in the game.
Paul Noble who got the start on the mound for the Tigers was charged with the loss allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three in four innings. Jake Overstreet pitched the final two innings of the game giving up one hit and one hit batsman while striking out one. With the loss Noble's record fell to 2 and 1.
At the plate the Tigers matched the Bulldogs with six hits led by Jake Overstreet and Justin Smith with two apiece while Reeves Bozeman and Andrew Parten added one hit each to the cause. Overstreet had the only extrabase hit with his first homerun of the season. He was also the RBI leader with two, followed by Smith with one.
In the second game of the day the Tigers had a 3 - 1 lead over 6A Enterprise going into the bottom of the seventh but couldn't close it out letting the Wildcats score two to tie it and force the game into extra innings. From there the two teams played into the ninth inning before anything changed. The Tigers exploded for six runs in the top of the inning and held the Wildcats to only one in their half to post a 9-4 win.
Jake Overstreet, who entered the game in the seventh, was ultimately credited with the win on the mound for the Tigers, evening his record at I and 1. In his three innings of work he allowed three runs on two hits, one walk, and one hit batsman while striking out three. Andrew Parten got the start for the Tigers and was sensational for first six innings of the game allowing one run on one hit and two hit batsmen while striking out six.
Over on offense the Tigers collected 12 hits in the game led by Justin Smith with three. Jake Overstsreet and J. B. LeNoir were next with two hits each while Jeremy Borden, Reeves Bozeman, Alex Buford, Paul Noble, and Bradley Parnell all had one hit on the Tiger hit parade. In the extrabase hit area Overstreet and Pamell each had a double while Noble hit his second homerun in as many days. Noble and Overstreet led the team in RBIs with two each while Borden, Steven Etheredge and LeNoir each had one.
The Tigers were scheduled to travel to Sweet Water on Tuesday, March 13 to play the Bulldogs and then return home on Friday, March 16, for an area game with the Jackson Aggies.
Proceeds from the tournament were donated to help the
