TMS wins three-team tourney in Daphne The Thomasville Middle School Tiger baseball team traveled to Daphne this past Saturday, March 10 and defeated both their opponents to win the three team round robin tourney hosted by Bayside Middle School. During the day the Thomasville squad defeated Mobile Christian 13-4 and host Bayside 13-1. In their game with the Mobile Christian Leopards the Tigers scored in every inning of the five inning contest on the way to a victory. Will Morgan and Billy Ruck shared the pitching duties for TMS with Morgan working three innings in which he allowed one run on two hits, two walks and two hit batsmen while striking out six. Ruck pitched the last two innings giving up three runs on two hits and two walks. Morgan was credited with the win moving his season record to 5-0. At the plate Brett Skelton led the charge for the Tigers with three hits followed by Darius Bowen with two. Joining them with one hit each were teammates Zack Day, Jarvis Dunning, Tyler Hayes, Hunter Jackson, Harrison Lewis and Billy Ruck. The Tigers started off with a bang in their game with host Bayside scoring seven runs in the first inning and then following that with back to back three run innings. Zack Ross and Tyler Hayes combined on the mound against the Admirals with Ross picking up the win. In his four innings of work Ross allowed one run on two hits and two hit batsmen while striking out seven. Hayes pitched a no hit shut out in his one inning of work striking out two. On offense the Tigers pounded out 13 hits led by two hit performances from Darius Bowen, Hunter Jackson Harrison Lewis, Zack Ross and Billy Ruck. Also contributing to the hit total with one hit each were Zack Day, Tyler Hayes and Brett Skelton. In the extra-base hit category Ross had a triple while Bowen and Ruck both had a double. In the week leading up to the weekend tourney TMS hosted both Demopolis and Wilson Hall in a pair of double headers. Demopolis came to town on Monday, March 5 and left with a split with TMS while Wilson Hall came in on Tuesday, March 6 and lost both games. The double-header with Demopolis started with the visiting Tigers coming from behind to beat TMS 6-5. Brett Skelton started on the mound for Thomasville and went the distance being charged with the loss. In his five innings of work Skelton allowed six runs on seven hits while striking out six. At the plate Zack Day led the Thomasville charge with two hits followed by Zack Ross, Billy Ruck and Joseph Smyly with one hit each. Things went a little better for TMS in the second game as they defeated Demopolis 8- 1 behind the one hit pitching of Tyler Hayes. During his five innings of work Hayes limited Demopolis to one run on the one hit and five walks while striking out four. On offense Thomasville recorded seven hits led by two hit performances from Daniel Hill and Harrison Lewis. Joining them with one hit each in the game were Tyler Hayes, Hunter Jackson and Andrew Sessions. Lewis with a double and sessions with a triple had the only extra-base hits. On Tuesday the Tigers swept Wilson Hall defeating them 4 - 3 in the first game and 7-2 in the second one. In the first game Billy Ruck got the start on the mound for Thomasville and worked the first three innings of the game that would ultimately take six innings to decide an outcome. During his stint on the mound Ruck allowed three runs on four hits, one walk and one hit batsman while striking out two. Will Morgan finished things up for TMS pitching the final three innings in which he shut out and no hit the bulldogs while striking out five. For his efforts Morgan was credited with the win. Meanwhile the Tiger offense which only got five hits was led by Joseph Smyly and Charles Taylor with two hits each with Darius Bowen picking up the other hit. Bowen had the only extra-base hit connecting on a double. The second game of the twin bill went a little easier for Thomasville as Darius Bowen and Zack Ross together no hit the Bulldogs. Bowen who got the start worked four innings giving up two walks and one hit batsman while striking out two. Ross finished things up pitching the last inning in which be had two hit batsmen while striking out two. At the plate Zack Ross led the charge with two hits followed by Christian Carpenter, Zack Day, Jake Dukes, and Harrison Lewis with one hit apiece. Carpenter and Ross had the only extra-base hits with a pair of doubles.
Following a road double header with Demopolis which was scheduled for Monday, March 12, the TMS Tigers are scheduled to end their season with a six team tournament in Thomasville this Saturday, March 17. Joining Thomasville in the tournament will be teams from Demopolis, Jackson, Martin Middle of Selma, St. Pauls from Mobile
