Making bold plans keep focus on future
What goal does every NFLcoach have at the beginning of every season? If you ask, he'll probably say to make it to the Super Bowl.

Let's put it another way. You'll likely never hear a NFLcoach at the beginning of the season say he hopes his team can squeak into the playoffs as a wildcard. If one ever said that, he should be fired on the spot.

And that brings us to this year's Horizons edition. As with previous years, there are a lot of ambitious goals that have been laid out for this town.

Obviously, some of these plans and goals are a lot closer to reality than others. Some have been on the drawing board, literally for years. And they may never make it past that stage.

It takes a whole lot of something called money, and as discovered with the civic center project, Thomasville is in no position to write blank checks on projects.

But a vision has been laid out for our community, and it continues to evolve. That's more than some small communities can say.

Some of these plans may never work out; others will certainly provide a significant boost to our fair city, while others may simply break even, their true value to the community hard to pin down.

Regardless of the outcome, it's important to have goals and ideas for ways our city could be more than what it is. Without them, we become stagnant, our civic pride slowly withering away.

We hope this year's Horizons edition will make you take a moment to think about what our city could be. The future holds endless possibility, and for that we should all be excited.
