The Thomasville Tiger varsity baseball team opened things up last week with a road win over traditional rival Sweet Water. The game, played on Tuesday, March 13 was close through the first four innings with the Bulldogs holding a 2 - 1 lead going into the fifth inning. It was at that point that the Tiger bats came alive as they posted six runs in their half of the inning. From that point on Thomasville would add one more in the sixth while holding the Bulldogs scoreless in their last three at bats, making the final score 8 -2.

Paul Noble working in relief of starter Alex Buford picked up the win for Thomasville bringing his season mark to 3 and 1. In his three innings of work he gave up three hits while striking out five. Buford who pitched the first four innings for the Tigers allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six.

On offense the Tigers had five players with one hit each including; Alex Buford, Paul Noble, Jake Overstreet, Bradley Parnell, and Justin Smith. Overstreet had the only extrabase hit with a double. Smith was the RBI leader for the Tigers with two followed by Reeves Bozeman, Buford, and Steven Etheredge with one each.

Unlike the good start to the week the Tigers had beating the Bulldogs, things turned sour at the end of the week when the Tigers dropped a 9-3 decision to the Jackson Aggies. The game, played in Thomasville on Friday, March 16 drew a very large crowd to see the teams tangle in the second area game for both teams. When all was said and done the bottom line for the Tigers and root cause of the loss was four costly errors followed by some timely Aggie hitting. All and all the Tigers committed five errors during the evening but only four ended up costing them runs.

Bradley Pamell started on the mound for Thomasville and was charged with the loss dropping his season record to 2 and 3. In his six innings of work he allowed nine runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out nine. As it turned out only two of the nine runs charged to Parnell were earned. Andrew Parten threw the last inning for the Tigers and retired the side without any further damage.

At the plate the Tigers picked up seven hits led by sophomore Reeves Bozeman who went four for four in the game. Jeremy Borden, Jake Overstreet and Bradley Parnell followed him with one hit each. Overstreet had the only extrabase hit blasting his second homerun of the season. Overstreet also led the team in RBIs with two followed by Bozeman with one.

The Tigers get back in action this week with a busy schedule that began with a double header at home on Tuesday, March 20 against 6A Selma High School. The pace picks up even more at the end of the week as the Tigers host the annual Pizza Pro Classic. The tournament gets under way on Thursday, March 22, when the Tigers play the Clarke County Bulldogs at 6:00 PM. That's followed by four games on Friday, March 23, with the Tigers getting the action started at 12:00 noon when they play the South Lamar Stallions. Saturday's schedule includes five games with Thomasville playing the Northside Rams at 12:00 noon and the Sulligent Blue Devils at 7:30 PM.
