Tigers sweep Pizza Pro Classic
Thomasville and Clarke County got things started on Thursday, March 22, when the Tigers scored in every inning of the five-inning contest to beat the Bulldogs 16-6. Andrew Parten got the start on the mound for the Tigers and picked up the win allowing six runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out eight in 4 1/3 innings. Alex Buford worked the final 2/3 innings giving up two walks and striking out two. At the plate against the Bulldogs, Alex Buford had the hot stick picking up four hits. Paul Noble was next with three hits followed by Jake Overstreet and Justin Smith with two hits each. Jeremy Borden, Andrew Parten, and Kenny Sanders rounded out the 14 hit attack with one hit apiece. Overstreet led the extrabase hit category with a homerun while Buford, Noble and Sanders each had a double. In the area of RBIs Overstreet led the way with four followed by Borden with three while Reeves Bozeman, Noble, Parten, Sanders and Smith all had one.
Over on offense, Jake Overstreet led the charge with three hits followed by Alex Buford and Bradley Parnell with two each. Joining them with one hit apiece were Jeremy Borden, Reeves Bozeman, Paul Noble, Andrew Parten, Kenny Sanders, and Justin Smith. Parnell was the leader in the extra-base hit race with his third homerun of the season while Overstreet and Sanders each had a double. Overstreet, Parnell and Smith were out front in the RBI category with two apiece followed by Borden, Noble and Parten with one each.
In the game with Northside, Paul Noble toed the hill for the Tigers and pitched a no-hit shutout to pick up his fifth win of the season against one loss. In five innings of work he walked three, hit three batters and struck out two. While he was holding the Rams in check the Tiger offense was at work pounding out 11 hits, led by Jake Overstreet with three and Bradley Parnell with two. Joining them and adding one hit to the cause were; Reeves Bozeman, Alex Buford, Justin Gilchrist, Paul Noble, Andrew Parten, and Kenny Sanders. In the extra-base hit category Overstreet led the way with two homeruns and a double while Noble, Parnell, and Sanders each had a double. Overstreet was the RBI leader as well with five followed by Sanders with two; Gilchrist, Noble, Parnell, and Justin Smith with one. In the final game of the tournament the Tigers scored seven runs in the second inning and went on to pound Sulligent 12 - 1. Alex Buford was the pitcher of record for the Tigers in this one working five innings in which he allowed one run on four hits while striking out five to improve his season mark to 2 and 0. Meanwhile on offense, the Tigers were led by Kenny Sanders with two hits while his teammates Alex Buford, Justin Gilchrist, Paul Noble, Jake Overstreet, Andrew Parten, and Justin Smith connected on one each. Noble had the only extra-base hit, which came in the form of his third homerun of the season. Reeves Bozeman, Noble, and Sanders led the way in the RBI category with two each followed by Jamie Morgan, Overstreet, and Smith with one. Earlier in the week, prior to the Classic, Thomasville hosted the Selma Saints in a double header on Tuesday, March 20. The Tigers swept the Saints in the twin bill winning the first game 10-0 and the second one 14-6. Paul Noble started on the mound for Thomasville in the first game and held the visitors scoreless, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out 10 to pick up the win. At the plate Jake Overstreet led the Tigers' hit parade with three hits followed by Paul Noble and Justin Smith with two and Reeves Bozeman, J. B. LeNoir, Jamie Morgan, and Andrew Parten with one. In the extra-base hit area Noble, Overstreet, and Smith each had a double. The RBI leaders in the game were Bozeman, LeNoir and Parten with two each followed by Morgan, Noble, and Smith with one. In the nightcap Mallan Sheffield started on the mound for Thomasville pitching four innings in which he allowed one run on two hits while striking out three to get credit for the win. Jamie Morgan and Kenny Sanders combined to pitch the final three innings with Morgan allowing four runs on two hits and two walks and Sanders giving up one run on two hits, three walks, and one hit batsman while striking out six. Over on offense the Tigers were led by Jake Overstreet with three hits followed by Reeves Bozeman, Bradley Parnell, and Justin Smith with two each. Joining them with one hit apiece were Dylan Digmon, Justin Gilchrist, Paul Noble and Andrew Parten. Overstreet was the extra-base hit leader with a homerun and two doubles while Parnell had a triple; and Bozeman, Noble and Smith had a double. Bozeman led the team in RBIs with three followed by Digmon with two. Joining them with one apiece were; Noble, Overstreet, Parnell, Parten, and Smith.
With their record now at 13 and 5 the Tigers open the second half of their season with a busy schedule this week that started with a road game against Washington County on Tuesday, March 27. They will follow that up on Thursday, March 29, with a make up double-header at home against Choctaw County, an area match-up with Escambia County on Friday, March 30 at home, and three-team double header with Andalusia and Demopolis on Saturday, March 31 in Thomasville.
