Bulldogs win round robin

The Sweet Water Bulldogs won both of their games in a three team round robin double header played in Sweet Water this past Thursday, March 22. The homestanding Bulldogs beat the Selma High School Saints 13-3 in their first game and the Choctaw County Tigers 11-0 in the nightcap.

In the game with the Saints Ty Glass got the call on the mound for the Bulldogs and went the distance to pick up the win allowing three unearned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out six in six innings of work. With the win Glass' season record improved to 2 and 3.

At the plate the Bulldogs collected eight hits led by two hit performances from Drew and Tate Luker. Following them with one hit each in the game were; Cory Downey, Ty Glass, Heath Hill and Anthony Landrum. Landrum had the only extra-base hit for the Bulldogs with a double. In the RBI category Tate Luker led the way with three followed by Downey and Drew Luker with two and Hill with one.

Against Choctaw County, Antonio Landrum started the game on the mound for Sweet Water and pitched three innings in which he gave up one hit and one walk while striking out four. Heath Hill pitched the final two innings of the fiveinning contest giving up one hit and three walks while striking out four. Landrum was credited with the win bringing his season mark to 2 and 0.

On offense Heath Hill, Drew Luker and Jeremy Tucker led the way with two hits apiece while Antonio Landrum and Tate Luker both recorded one. Drew Luker had a homerun and Hill had a double for the Bulldogs only extra-base hits in the game. In the RBI area Hill was the leader with three followed by Drew Luker with two while Landrum and Tate Luker added one apiece.

Things didn't go quite as well on Friday, March 23 as the Demopolis Tigers came to Sweet Water and handed the Bulldogs a 4-0 loss. It was defensive miscues that ultimately spelled doom for the Bulldogs as the visiting Tigers picked up three unearned runs in the third inning.

Drew Luker got the call on the mound for the Bulldogs and despite a good effort was tagged with the loss. In his seven innings of work Luker allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight. With the loss his season mark fell to 2 and 3.

Offensively the Bulldogs matched the visiting Tigers with four hits led by Antonio Landrum with two while both Drew and Tate Luker had one.

With their season record standing at 7-7 and their area mark at 1-0 the Bulldogs have a busy week ahead of them. It was all scheduled to start on Tuesday, March 27 with an area game on the road against the Fruitdale Pirates. Following that the Bulldogs are scheduled to host Southern Choctaw and Excel in a split varsity double header on Thursday, March 29 and Millry in a JV and varsity double header on Friday, March 30. Starting times for Thursday's action were set at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM while things get under way at 4:00 PM on Friday. Friday's game with Millry is also an area match-up.
