The Thomasville Lady Tiger softball team took part in the Gulf Shores Invitational Softball Tournament this past week and came away with a 4 and 2 record.

Everything got started for the Lady Tigers on Monday, March 19 when they were matched-up with Arab and New Hope. In both contest the Lady Tigers represented themselves well but ended the day with one win and one loss.

The win came in the game with the Lady Knights of Arab as Thomasville pounded out 10 hits on offense to claim a 7-2 victory. Leading the charge for Thomasville was Kierra Westbrook with three hits followed by Ashley Crawford, Brianna Penn, and Savannah Smith with two. Shaneka Nicholson and Nicole Washington rounded out the hitting with one hit each. Crawford had two doubles for the Lady Tigers only extra-base hits of the game. Penn and Smith led the team in RBIs with two each while Crawford and Nicholson had one apiece.

On the mound Savannah Smith worked all seven innings of the game allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three. With the win her season mark improved to 3-5.

The day's loss was dealt to the Lady Tigers by the Lady Indians of New Hope High School when they blanked Thomasville 5-0. The lack of offense by the Lady Tigers was the difference in the game with the usually productive Thomasville lineup managing to get only two hits. Those two came from the bats of Ashley Crawford and Dominique Watters with Crawford legging out a double.

On the mound it was Watters, whose season mark fell to 2-3, that was tagged with the loss. In her seven innings of work she allowed five runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out six.

Following Monday's split the Lady Tigers went back to work in earnest on Tuesday, March 20, ending the day with a 9-3 win over Austin, an 8-3 win over Childersburg, and an 11- 0 blanking of Gaston.

In the victory over Austin, Savannah Smith picked up the win on the mound for Thomasville allowing three runs on five hits while striking out one in six innings of work. That effort improved her season totals to 4-5.

At the plate Smith had a good game as well leading a 15 hit outburst by the Lady Tigers with three hits of her own. Following her with two hits each were; Cassie Flint, Shaneka Nicholson, Brianna Penn, and Nicole Washington while Ashley Crawford, Shelby Myers, Dominique Watters, and Kierra Westbrook all contributed one hit to the cause. Penn blasted a homerun to lead the team in the extra-base hit area while Nicholson had a triple and Westbrook a double. The RBIs were split equally with Nicholson, Penn, Smith and Washington each knocking in two runs.

Rachel Norris improved her season record to 3-0 in the Lady Tigers' win over Childersburg. In her six innings of work on the mound she allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two.

Over on offense her Lady Tiger teammates had eight hits led by two hit performances from Shelby Myers and Nicole Washington. Joining the two of them with one hit in the game were; Ashley Crawford, Cassie Flint, Savannah Smith and Dominique Watters. Smith had the only extra-base hit with a double and led the team in RBIs with three. Following her in the RBI category was Myers with two and Flint with one.

Dominique Watters stole the show in the win over Gaston delivering her second no-hitter of the season. In blanking the Lady Bulldogs she gave up three walks and struck out 11. With the win she evened her season record at 3-3.

On offense the Lady Tigers, who plated 11 runs on seven hits, were led by Ashley Crawford with two hits followed by teammates Shelby Myers, Shaneka Nicholson, Lindsey Overstreet, Brianna Penn, and Savannah Smith with one hit apiece. Myers and Penn each had a homerun to lead in the extra-base hit area. In the RBI category Penn led Thomasville with two while Myers, Nicholson and Kierra Westbrook contributed one.

Despite playing very well in their final game of the tournament, the Lady Tigers left the field Wednesday, March 21 on the short end of 2 - 1 decision. Their opponent, Father Ryan High School out of Tennessee scored one in the bottom of the seventh to break a 1 - 1 deadlock and post the win.

Savannah Smith, who fell to 4 -6 with the loss, pitched very well for seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four.

On the flip side, the Thomasville offense was limited to only four hits with Ashley Crawford, Shaneka Nicholson, Savannah Smith, and Nicole Washington each recording one. There were no extra-base hits and Washington had the only RBI.

On the schedule next for the 11-8 Lady Tigers is a trip to Atmore on Thursday, March 29, to take on the Lady Blue Devils in a varsity double header starting at 4:30 PM.
