A great view of life on our planet
If you haven't been watching the mini-series "Planet Earth" on the Discovery channel, you're really missing something.

It's an amazing look at our planet with new technology helping us see parts of our world in ways we've never seen it before.

The cinematography is wonderful, and the naration is easy enough to follow that all ages could grasp what's happening. However, some scenes might not be suitable for the youngest of viewers.

But it also shows how delicately balanced our ecological systems are on this planet. Sometimes it's hard to see the forest for the trees, but the show does a wonderful job of showing not just the struggle and majesty of an animal but the cycle of life and death of systems.

We are, of course, a part of that system, and we're doing a lot to tip the scales in ways that won't work long-term.

Life will continue on this planet, but it doesn't have to support human existence. It's something we should all give a little more thought to, and this series provides good food for thought.
