Stand on the Rock
Peggy and I are at Mole (pronounced to rime with holy) National Park a wildlife preserve located in North West Ghana. Our supervisors seemed to think that we needed some rest and relaxation. We traveled in a Toyota 4x4, and we needed it. I have driven on dirt roads, and I have done a bit of driving over rough trails, deer hunting in Alabama, but this was 45 miles of the roughest roads I've been on yet. I am praying that our vehicle will make it back home. The incoming trip jarred and shook off the parking and turning light assembly on the right front fender, and the battery cable came loose from one of the post. The accommodations here are okay, despite the lack of running water. Each bathroom is supplied with two garbage cans full of water along with a bucket. It isn't the Holiday Inn, but it is clean, the service is friendly, the food is good, and the air conditioner works sometimes. Peggy and I had to laugh when we read the following on the "Guest Notice" in our room, "Do not go to the dining room in your underwear (It is inconvenient to other users of the dining room.)" We came here to get away from everything and to see wildlife. We are certainly away from everything, and have we seen wildlife. Right outside our room we photographed wild baboons, wart hogs, monkeys and a bull elephant. From the pool area you look down about 300 yards to valley with water holes where all kinds of animals come every day, but sometimes they come to the swimming pool to drink. Peggy and I went on a safari with an armed guide, and saw more elephants, antelope, wild pigs, exotic birds, and a rather long python. When we asked about cell phone service, we were told that the only way to get a connection was to stand on the big rock next to the parking lot. Now that is the gospel truth, and John 14:6 clearly states that the only way to get connected to God is to stand on the "Rock," who is Jesus Christ, God's only Son. Join us on the "Rock" and we'll see you in Church.
