Litter pick up week coming
By Walter Davis Special to the Times

The Clarke County Citizens Against Littering would like to encourage anyone who is disgusted and fed-up with seeing the trash that is so common along our roadways, to join forces with us in a countywide effort to clean it up. Some of our roadsides have become nothing more than unregulated dumpsites. There is no excuse for it. Collectively, we as citizens should be angry, embarassed and ashamed for our lack of pride in our county to be on such display along our roadways. We encourage you to take a drive and pay attention to what you see, and then help us to do something about it.

Statewide, the week of April 21-28 has been designated by PALS (People Against a Littered State) as the week for a focus on cleaning up the roadsides of Alabama. Everyone is asked to remove litter of all kinds from their property, and the roadsides adjacent to their property, and keep it clean. Volunteers from several communities across the county have already picked up in their respective areas, and it has made a noticeable difference. Volunteers from Coffeeville and Grove Hill will be out working on April 14, and Jackson will do the same on April 21.

We all have a stake in improving the appearance of the communities in which we live. Whether you join one of the scheduled groups or just go out on your own, Clarke County Citizens Against Littering thanks you for helping us to keep our county and our state litter free.
