The Sweet Water Bulldogs moved from clinching the Area 1 Championship two weeks ago to winning it outright this past week when they defeated the Fruitdale Pirates 5-2 on Tuesday, April 3. That win improved the Bulldogs area record to a perfect 4-0.

In the game which was played in Sweet Water the Bulldogs took an early 2-1 lead and then added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to put the game away. Heath Hill took the mound for the Bulldogs and pitched a complete seven inning game in which he allowed two runs on six hits and four walks while striking out seven. With the win he evened his season mark at 1-1.

On offense the Bulldogs pounded out nine hits led by Drew Luker and Henry Smith with two hits each. Following them with one hit apiece were teammates Ty Glass, Antonio Landrum, Tate Luker, Scottie Nelson, and Jeremy Tucker. In the extra-base hit category Drew Luker blasted a homerun and Glass connected on a double. Drew Luker and Smith were the RBI leaders with two apiece.

The week began for the Bulldogs on Monday, April 2, when they played host to the Mobile Christian Leopards in what turned out to be a real nail bitter. Unfortunately when the dust had cleared the Bulldogs found themselves on the short end of a 3-2 decision.

Heath Hill had the only extra-base hit for the Bulldogs with a homerun. In the RBI category Hill and Drew Luker each had one to lead Sweet Water.

On Thursday, April 5, the Bulldogs traveled to Excel to take on the Panthers. Once again the Bulldogs played tough but like it was on Monday, they came up just a little short as the Panthers defeated them 3-1. Drew Luker getting the start on the mound for Sweet Water was tagged with the loss dropping his season mark to 3-4. In his six innings of work he allowed three runs on seven hits, three walks and two hit batsmen while striking out three.

On offense the Bulldogs didn't have much to brag about as Jeremy Tucker posted the teams only two hits against the Panthers.

With their season record now at 11 - 10 the Bulldogs entered this week with a busy schedule that included three road trips. The first one was set for Monday, April 9, in Mobile against Mobile Christian. The last two were scheduled for the end of the week with Sweet Water slated to play Southern Choctaw in Butler on Thursday, April 12, and Thomasville in Thomasville on Friday, April 13.
