Good and bad news week
Arthur McLean
As the news keeps coming in from Blacksburg, Va. Reports are beginning to paint the picture of a very disturbed young man who went on this shooting rampage. I don't know if we'll ever truly understand what leads some people to do such things.

May peace soon find the families of the victims.

Trading places

Sunday night marked the first step in an interesting experience here in Thomasville when Rev. Jimmy Allen took the pulpit at Thomasville Baptist Church. The second part will come when Rev. Robert Kirkland takes the pulpit at Thomasville Church of God in Christ next week.

There was a strong contingent of parishioners from Allen's church present. It will be interesting to see if there's a similar turnout for Kirkland's appearance.

I'm not going to sit here and say this will pave the way for a new era of racial harmony in Thomasville, but things like this can't hurt.

Web site scores

Newspapers have very strange relationship with the internet. For a long time most feared it, and now some are embracing it to various degrees, and most of us are somewhere in the middle. There's no doubt it's changing the newspaper business.

Most of the time, out web site is just and adjunct to the printed paper. We know a lot of people go there every week, but we haven't gotten anything out of it from a business perspective yet.

Well, this week we learned that our internet presence wound up helping a group of Thomasville students get a little extra recognition. We'll have a story on this development very soon.

As far as the future of our site is concerned, I've been putting a lot of thought into that over the past few months. At some point, we're probably going to have to make a few changes to that aspect of our operation. When we make those decisions, we'll of course, let you know.
