THS defeats Aggies in big area matchup The Thomasville High School Varsity Baseball Team traveled to Jackson on Tuesday, April 10 and defeated the Jackson Aggies 14-6. The win over their county rival and Area One competitor in some ways avenged a loss to the Aggies earlier in the season. Although the game was obviously completed there was some doubt early and throughout the game as a steady light rain fell on John McCants Field for the first four innings. Thomasville jumped on top 4-0 in the top of the first inning on the strength of a grand slam homerun by Bradley Parnell and appeared to be setting the tone for the game. The Aggies would not fold however and responded with three of their own in the bottom of the frame. The second inning was scoreless but the Tigers got four more in the third, one in the fourth while the Aggies picked up three more in the fourth to put the score at 8-6. It remained that way until the seventh when the Tigers added five to put the game away. Bradley Parnell started on the mound for the Tigers and worked four innings to pick up the win. During his stint he allowed six runs on seven hits and seven walks while striking out three. Paul Noble pitched the final three innings giving up two hits and striking out two. With the win Parnell upped his season mark to 6-2. At the plate the Tigers pounded out 11 hits led by Justin Smith with three. Following Smith with two hits each were Reeves Bozeman, Alex Buford and Bradley Parnell while Steven Etheredge and J. B. LeNoir added one apiece. In the extra-base hit category, Parnell blasted his fifth homerun of the season while Etheredge, LeNoir, and Smith recorded a double. Parnell was also the RBI leader with six followed by Etheredge with two; Bozeman and LeNoir with one. Thomasville followed up on the win over the Aggies with another road win on Thursday, April 12. This time the victim was the Demopolis Tigers. In the game Thomasville exploded for seven runs in the top of the third to erase a 2-0 Demopolis lead and then held on for a 7-2 win. Andrew Parten got the start on the mound for Thomasville and picked up the win to move his season mark to 4-1 with one save. In five innings he allowed two runs on five hits, five walks and one hit batsman while striking out eight. Justin Gilchrist closed the game out working the final two innings in which he gave up one hit and one walk while striking out one.
On offense Thomasville picked up 10 hits led by Alex Buford, Steven Etheredge, and Jake Overstreet with two each. J. B. LeNoir, Paul Noble, Kenny Sanders and Justin Smith followed them with one apiece. Etheredge had a double for the team's only extra base hit. The RBIs were split between five players with Buford, Noble, Overstreet, Andrew Parten and Sanders all having one.
