The Thomasville Tigers ended the 2007 regular season this past weekend with wins over both Clarke County and Jackson in the third annual Clarke County Tournament. The tournament which rotates host sites every year was back in Thomasville this year due to Clarke County requesting to change their year for hosting the tournament to 2008 when their new baseball stadium will be complete.

Things got underway on Friday, April 20, with a Clarke County and Thomasville match-up. In the game, the Tigers scored five runs in each of their first two innings and then added one in the third on their way to an 11 - 1 win.

Paul Noble got the start on the mound for the Tigers and picked up his eighth win of the season bringing his record to 8- 1 with one save. In three innings he allowed one run on two hits, two walks and one hit batsman while striking out four. Andrew Parten worked the final two innings of the five inning contest giving up one hit and two walks while striking out two.

At the plate the Tigers pounded out 13 hits led by a three hit performance from Reeves Bozeman. Following close behind him with two hits each were; Paul Noble, Bradley Parnell, and Justin Smith while Alex Buford, J. B. LeNoir, Jake Overstreet and Andrew Parten each added one. Bozeman led the team in extra-base hits as well with three doubles while LeNoir, Parten and Smith had a double and Parnell blasted his sixth homerun. LeNoir and Smith were the RBI leaders with three each followed by Parnell with two; Noble and Parten with one.

The tournament resumed on Saturday, April 21, with Jackson and Thomasville squaring off in the first game of the day. The Tigers continued their torrid play beating the Aggies 17-4 to capture the championship.

After scoring one in the first and three in the second the Tigers blew the game open in the third scoring 11 runs before the Aggies could corral them. They then added two more in the fourth for good measure while Jackson scored three in the third and one in the fourth.

Alex Buford got the start on the mound for Thomasville and picked up his third win of the season. Pitching three innings he allowed three runs on three hits, one walk and one hit batsman while striking out one. Justin Gilchrist pitched the fourth inning for the Tigers and allowed one run on two hits. Mallan Sheffield closed the game out as he blanked the Aggies in the fifth.

On offense the Tigers collected 12 hits led by Jeremy Borden and Jamie Morgan with two hits each. Joining them with one hit apiece were teammates; Reeves Bozeman, Alex Buford, J. B. LeNoir, Jake Overstreet, Bradley Parnell, Andrew Parten, Kenny Sanders and Justin Smith. In the extra-base hit category Overstreet hit homerun number 12 while Buford, Parnell, Sanders and Smith all connected on a double. Five different players including; Borden, Bozeman, Buford, Sanders and Smith led the charge in the RBI category with two each. Following them with one apiece were; Morgan, Overstreet and Parten.

Prior to the tournament the Tigers played their final area game on Monday, April 16, when the traveled to Atmore to take on the Escambia County Blue Devils. Things looked promising early in the game when the Tigers jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning. From that point on it was tit for tat though with the Tigers scoring three more while the homestanding Blue Devils scored three of their own keeping the pressure on the Tigers to the very end. Only after some outstanding defense play in the final inning were the Tigers able to escape with a 5 -3 win.

Bradley Parnell got the start on the mound for Thomasville and worked six plus innings to pick up his seventh win of the season improving his record to 7-2. During his stint he allowed three runs on five hits and five walks while striking out eight. Andrew Parten followed Parnell and faced two batters giving up two walks. Paul Noble was next closing out the game giving up one walk and striking out two to pick up a save.

In the extrabase hit category Overstreet blasted his 11th homerun and Parnell slugged a double. Overstreet was the RBI leader as well with two followed by Parten and Smith with one each.

With the regular season complete the Tigers were scheduled to begin the state playoffs on Tuesday, April 24 as they traveled to just north of Tuscaloosa to play Northside High School in the first round. The Tigers will be representing Area 1 as the runner-up while Northside is the Area 5 Champion. Thomasville finished second to Jackson in the Area 1 race despite both teams having an identical 5 - 1 record that included one win and one loss apiece in their head to head games. The difference came in the first tie breaker which is each team's record against common opponents within the same class but out of area. In that situation the Aggies swept Andalusia while the Tigers went one and one against the Bulldogs. Game time for the first round contest was set for 4:00 PM.
