Lewis headlines April 29 banquet
Coach Lewis began his coaching career at A.L. Martin High School in Thomasville in 1965. During his tenure, he won two district championships, the Clarke County football championships, three basketball championships and was named Clarke County Coach of the year four times. After moving from Thomasville, he coached at G.W. Carver High School in Montgomery where he won back to back 6A State Championships in 1983 and 1984. He was named the Montgomery Advertiser's Coach of the Year five times and twice was named state coach of the year by the Birmingham News and Montgomery Advertiser. His tallied 689 wins during his basketball coaching career and was inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. He retired from coaching in 2007.
