THS dominates FCA lifting meet

THS won the annual FCA weightlifting competition held in Thomasville this year. See story for individual winners.
For the fourth year in a row the Thomasville Tigers played host to their Fellowship of Christian Athletes Power Lifting Meet. The event which was held on Saturday, April 28, took place in the Thomasville High School Weight Facility. This year teams from Andalusia High School, Clarke County High School, Jackson High School, Leroy High School, Sweet Water High School, Thomasville High School and Zion Chapel High School competed in the event.

A total of 165 lifters took part in this year's meet, competing in fourteen weight classifications beginning with up to 125 pounds and going all the way to 275 pounds and up. Each of the contestants in each of the weight classifications was judged on bench press and power clean. When all the points were tabulated the team from Thomasville had racked up 146 total points to out distance themselves from their closest competitor by a large margin and put themselves in first place.

Seventeen members of the Thomasville team took either a first, second or third place in the event with Courtney Campbell, Javier Russell, Jarrell Watters, Katrell Watters, Joey Kidd, and John Ellis all finishing first place in their respective divisions.

The individual best award in bench press this year went to Ledarius Benson of Andalusia High School with a bench of 350 pounds. Benson also won the combine award for the maximum number of times a lifter can bench press 225 pounds with 22 repetitions. Katrell Watters of Thomasville High School won the power clean award with a clean of 305 pounds.

The top three finishers in all fourteen classifications and the high school they represented were:

Up to 125 ibs; first- Daniel Tarver, LHS, second- Jarrett Taylor, THS, third Donald Blanks SWHS.

126 lbs to 139 ibs; first- Matt Brunson, ZCHS, second- Darius Williams, IllS, third- Gatlin Corley, ZCHS.

140 lbs to 149 lbs; first- Courtney Campbell, THS, second Evander Davis THS, third- Charles Taylor, THS. 150 lbs to 159 lbs; first- C. Richardson, AHS, second- Michael Bracey, LHS, third- Jamie Morgan, THS.

160 lbs to 170 lbs; first- Javier Russell, THS, second- Steven Holloway, AHS, third- Terrance Ivory, CCHS.

171 lbs to 180 lbs; first- John Raine, JHS, second- Roya Campbell, THS, third Tevin Davis, SWHS.

181 lbs to 200 lbs; first- Britt Chapman, CCHS, second- Tyrece Lockett, SWHS, third- Scipio Tolbert, THS.

201 lbs to 210 ibs; first- Jarrell Watters, THS, second- Mark Lambert, CCHS, third- Delano Brewer, SWHS.

211 lbs to 220 Ibs; first- Katrell Watters, THS, second- Warren Maddox, AHS, third- Tacory Marshall, THS.

221 lbs to 230 lbs; first- Kenneth Kimbrough, CCHS, second- Eddie Satterfield, CCHS, third- Nicholas Lambert, CCHS.

231 lbs to 240 lbs; first- Joey Kidd, THS, second- Brandon Williams, THS, third Daniel O'Bryant, THS.

241 lbs to 260 lbs; first- John Ellis, THS, second- Otis Jackson, CCHS, third, Caleb Harris, CCHS.

261 lbs to 275 lbs; first- Nakia Dennis, SWHS, second- J. D. Barnhill, SWHS, third Brandon Hunt, JHS.

275 lbs and up; first- Darius Benson, AHS, second- Demetric Watters, THS, third- Anthony Payne, LHS.
