Wilcox Historical Society to hold Spring Pilgrimage

The Wilcox Historical Society is sponsoring a tour of homes, churches, schools, and other historic sites located in Wilcox County on Saturday, May 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The places on tour this year represent just a few of the historic buildings and sites that are part of our heritage and rich history of this area of the Black Belt. In addition to the featured homes and buildings open for the tour, there are many others that can be observed during a walking tour of the downtown area of Camden which is designated as a National Historic District. Tickets are on sale at Blackbelt Treasures, Tour Headquarters, which is located at 209 Claiborne Street in Camden, or you can pick up tickets at the Weir Home in Gastonburg if you want to start the tour at this location. Additional maps of the tour route and other information are available at each of these locations. Children's Summer Art Camp Registration

The Mobile Museum of Art will hold a weeklong art camp in Grove Hill for children ages 7-12 July 30-August 3. Children will meet Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until noon, with art instructors from the Mobile Museum of Art to work with oils, watercolors, and other art mediums. There is a $25.00 registration fee. Space is limited so contact Terry L. Norris @251-275- 3816 by May 15 to register or for more information. This event is a joint effort of the Mobile Museum of Art and the Grove Hill Arts Council.

"Sharing Scouts Secrets: Conservations with Mary Badham"

On May 11, at 4:00 p.m., child actor, Mary Badham, of "To Kill A Mockingbird" fame, is returning to Monroeville, (the inspiration for the town of Maycomb). Mary Badham who was chosen for the role of Scout out of thousands who auditioned, went from having no prior acting experience to earning an Oscar nomination for the role of the inquisitive tomboy daughter of a Southern lawyer fighting for justice in the rural south. Her experiences on the film taught her many lessons that she carries with her to this day. There will be storytelling of her experiences as well as a question and answer session for the attendees.

Heart of Dixie Collectors Club Meeting

The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will hold a meeting on May 21, at 6;00 p.m. at Jackson Steak House. The speaker will be Steve Merideth-University of Alabama Lithics expert. Visitors welcome. Community Action Agency to hold meeting

The Community Action Agency will hold a Policy Council Executive Committee and a Board of Directors Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, May 15, at the central office in Daphne at 26440 N, Pollard Road. The meeting will begin as follows: Policy Council Executive Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. and the Board of Directors Executive Committee will meet at 10:00 a.m. The discussion will be relative to the Coffeeville Head Start Program; employment issues and other pertinent information. The Community Action Agency of Baldwin, Escambia, Clarke, Monroe and Conecuh counties is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a United Way Agency.

Farewell reception Charlie Phillips

The Thomasville Nursing Home will hold a farewell reception for Charlie Phillips, nursing home administrator, May 22nd from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the nursing home. Charlie has taken an administrator's position in Virginia. He has been a part of the Thomasville Nursing Home for 11 years and will be missed.

Everyone is invited.

NAACP to hold meeting

Clarke County NAACP's next meeting will be held Monday, May 14, at 5:00 p.m. All member are asked to be present.

Patrick-Jones-Carstarphen Family Reunion

The Patrick-Jones- Carstarphen Family reunion will be held July 20-22 at the Jackson Assembly House in Jackson. Sunday morning worship will be held at All Saints Holiness Church in Lower Peachtree. The members of the Reunion Committee encourage everyone to participate. We need your support to make this reunion a success. Registration deadline is June 9.
