Lady Tigers win Jackson tourney

The Thomasville High School Lady Tigers traveled to Jackson on Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28 to compete in an invitational tournament hosted by the Lady Aggies of Jackson High School. In the two days the Thomasville Ladies went 4-1 to claim the championship.
It all started on Friday with the Lady Tigers getting off to a bad start losing to the host Lady Aggies 5-3. The game was tight early with the score knotted at 1-I after four innings. But the Lady Aggies plated four more in their half of the fifth and held the Lady Tigers to only two more the rest of the way.
Savannah Smith got the start on the mound for Thomasville and was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on five hits, and one walk while striking out one.
On offense the Lady Tigers out hit their counter parts picking up nine. The foursome of Ashley Crawford, Shelby Myers, Shaneka Nicholson, and Brianna Penn led the way with two hits each while Kierra Westbrook added one. Myers was the leader in the extra-base hit category with a pair of doubles. Joining her was; Westbrook with a homerun and Penn with a double. The three Thomasville runs were driven in by Crawford, Myers and Westbrook.
Day two of the tournament proved to be much better for the Ladies from Thomasville as they defeated the Lady Bears from Leroy twice and the Ladies Aggies twice to win the championship.
In the games with the Lady Bears, Thomasville posted 6-4 and 13-3 wins. In the 6-4 decision, Rachel Norris picked up the win on the mound allowing four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two.
While she and the Lady Tiger defense were doing their part to keep the Lady Bears in check, her teammates were cranking out eight hits on offense. Cassie Flint led the charge for the Lady Tigers with two hits while Ashley Crawford, Shelby Myers, Shaneka Nicholson, Savannah Smith, Nicole Washington, and Dominique Watters all contributed one. Crawford with a triple and Smith with a double had the only extra-base hits. In the RBI category Crawford was the leader with two followed by Flint, Smith and Watters with one.
In the 13-3 win Savannah Smith had mound duty for the Lady Tigers and picked up her ninth win of the season. In the game she allowed three runs on five hits and one hit batsman while striking out three.
On offense the Lady Tiger hitters pounded out 14 hits against the Lady Bears pitching staff led by Shelby Myers with four bits and Dominique Watters with three. Joining them with two hits apiece were Shaneka Nicholson and Britney Stallworth while Ashley Crawford, Brianna Penn, and Savannah Smith contributed one. In the extra-base hit category Nicholson had a triple while Myers, Penn, Smith and Watters all had doubles. The RBIs were split fairly evenly with Crawford, Myers, Nicholson, and Penn driving in two each while Smith and Stallworth each plated one.
In their other two games of the day, the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Aggies twice with the margin of victory both times being 5-2.
In the first one Thomasville got out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and then held off a late Jackson rally to post the win. Dominique Watters pitched her first of two during the day to pick up the win. In seven innings of work she allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out 10.
On offense, the Lady Tigers recorded 11 hits with Savannah Smith leading the way with three. Following her, Shaneka Nicholson, Nicole Washington and Dominique Watters all had two hits while Cassie Flint and Brianna Penn had one. In the extra-base hit category Nicholson had a triple while Washington had a double. Flint and Washington were the RBI leaders with two each followed by Smith with one.
The second game of the day between the two county rivals was for all the marbles and once again Dominique Watters was called on to go to the mound for the Lady Tigers.
Just as she had been in the first one, Watters was up to the challenge in the last one allowing the Lady Aggies only two runs on five hits while striking out eight.
At the plate her teammates connected on seven hits with
Shaneka Nicholson leading the charge with three. Joining her with one hit apiece
were; Ashley Crawford, Shelby Myers, Savannah Smith and Nicole Washington.
Nicholson with two doubles led the way in the extra-base hit category while
Myers had a homerun and Smith a double. Leading the team in RBIs was Crawford
with two followed by Myers and Smith with one.
