Lilla Dorette Chapman

Lilla Dorette Chapman, age 76, a homemaker of Linden, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. She was born April 13, 1931 in Linden.

Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Gandy and Rev. Tony Cannon officiating. Burial was at Linden Memorial Park in Linden.

She is survived by: husband, Wiley Jones Chapman, Jr. of Linden ; son, Daniel Kelsey, Jr. of Thomaston; brother, William J. (Doris) Luker of Linden; five sisters, Betty M. (Melvin) Gibbs of Linden; Gwen (Tony Earl) Cannon of Octagon; Martha (Jimmy) Johnson of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; Barbara Luker of Linden; Gloria (Wayne) Henson of Dixons Mills; five grandchildren, Angie (Michael) Smith; Dana Courtney both of Thomaston; Tina (Bennie, Jr.) Manley of Pennington; Danny (Jessica) Kelsey, III of Dixons Mills; David (Amber) Kelsey of Thomaston; and eight great grandchildren.

Active Pallbearers were: Bennie Manley, Jr., Michael Smith, Rusty Glass, Tony Cannon, Jr., Ty Glass, Randy Sanders.

Honorary Pallbearers were: John Echoles, Pat Vice, Lamar Ballard, Odell Vice, Paul Owensby, Bill Blackwell, Goodloe Sutton, Jerry Vice.

Jessie Kathleen Dunn

Jessie Kathleen Dunn, age 81, a homemaker of Sweet Water, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Mobile Infirmary. She was born September 10, 1925, in Scottsboro. She was a member of Old Union Baptist Church in Sweet Water.

Funeral services were held at Old Union Baptist Church on Friday, May 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Hill and Rev. James Nichols officiating. Burial was at Old Liberty Cemetery in Nicholsville.

She was preceded in death by: father, Russell S. Duncan; mother, Lela T. Harris Duncan; sister, Nell Broyles; brother, Sam Duncan.

She is survived by: husband, W. T. Dunn; son, Jerry (Floyce) Dunn both of Sweet Water; two sisters, Helen (Jack) Carter, Hilda (Lanier) Phillips both of Scottsboro; five grandchildren, Thad Dunn, Tony Dunn, Brad Dunn, Michelle Etheredge, Cindy Etheredge; sister-in-law, Sue Duncan of Scottsboro; seven great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Thad Dunn, Tony Dunn, Brad Dunn, Ted Etheredge, Mike Nelson, John Ott.

John Andrew Turley

John Andrew Turley, age 89, of Sweet Water passed away Friday May 11, 2007 at his home. He was born September 18, 1917 in Ceres, Va.

He retired from the U. S. Air Force. During his time in the service, he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division 502nd Parachute Infantry. He parachuted into France on D-Day. Three months later, he was engaged in a campaign at Holland, the Battle of Bastogne, and one in the Rhinegold. He wore four campaign stars, the Bronze Star medal, Presidential citation with one cluster, combat infantry badge, the Bronze Arrowhead, and also had twenty parachute jumps, with two being in combat, to his credit.

Graveside funeral services were held at Aimwell Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, May 14, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Chaplain Kevin Chelf officiating. Military honors were provided by the U. S. Air Force.

He is survived by: wife, Jannie Milstead Turley of Sweet Water; two sons, David Turley of Mobile; Jeff Turley of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Janice (Sid) Sharma of Springhill, Tenn.; Judy (Royce) Kelley of Grove Hill; one grandson, Adam Pope; three granddaughters, Brittany Sharma, Chanda Sharma, Priscilla (Jason) Collinsworth.
