City of Thomasville resolution setting alcohol vote Aug. 14

Whereas, pursuant to Act 2006-380 (hereinafter referred to as the Act) of the Alabama Legislature, a Petition has been presented to the City Clerk of The City of Thomasville, Alabama containing the names of twenty five per cent (25%) of the number of voters voting in the last general election of The City of Thomasville, Alabama petitioning for a municipal option election in The City of Thomasville, Alabama to determine the sentiment of the people as to whether alcoholic beverages, including draft beer, may be legally sold or distributed in The City of Thomasville, Alabama; and

Whereas, pursuant to said Act and upon the receipt of said Petition, the City Council as the governing body of The City of Thomasville is mandated to set a date for a municipal option election to determine whether alcoholic beverages, including draft beer, may be legally sold or distributed in The City of Thomasville, Alabama and to give notice of such municipal option election by publication at least three (3) weeks before the date of the election in a newspaper in The City of Thomasville, Alabama;

Now, therefore, be it resolved that the City Council of The City of Thomasville, Alabama sets the 14th day of August, 2007 as the date to hold a municipal option election to determine whether alcoholics beverages, including draft beer, may be legally sold or distributed in The City of Thomasville, Alabama and that The City of Thomasville, Alabama give and publish notice required by the Act and that such election shall be held and the officers shall be appointed to hold the election in the manner provided by law for holding other municipal elections and the returns therefore tabulated and the results certified as provided by law for municipal elections and that only qualified voters of the municipality may vote in the municipal option election;

Be it further resolved that said notice be prepared by the City Attorney of The City of Thomasville, Alabama for and on behalf of the City Council of The City of Thomasville, Alabama and such notice be given by publication as provided for in said Act.
