The Thomasville High School Lady Tiger softball team saw their dreams of a State Championship come to an end this past Saturday, May 12 when they lost the first two games of a best two out of three series with the Lady Panthers of Elmore County High School. The second round Sub-State match-up was played at Elmore County High School, which is located in Eclectic.

In game one the Lady Tigers were held to only one hit as the Lady Panthers defeated them 3- 0. Nicole Washington had Thomasville's lone hit, picking up a single.

Dominique Watters, who got the start on the mound for Thomasville, was tagged with the loss dropping her season record to 12-4. In all actuality Watters pitched pretty well, limiting the Lady Panthers to only three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six in seven innings of work.

Things didn't turn out any better in game two of the series as the Thomasville Ladies fell victim to the girls from Elmore County 13-1. The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, extended it to 6-0 after four and basically never looked back.

Savannah Smith got the start on the mound for Thomasville in game two and was charged with the loss dropping her season record to 11-8. In six innings she allowed nine runs on nine hits, four walks, and one hit batsman while striking out three. Dominique Watters came on for the final inning allowing four runs on four hits and one walk.

At the plate the Lady Tigers did somewhat better picking up one run on six hits. Leading the charge for Thomasville with two hits each were; Shaneka Nicholson and Nicole Washington while Brianna Penn and Dominique Watters both had one. Watters had the only extra-base hit with a double and Penn was credited with the only RBI.

With the pair of losses the 2007 season came to a close for the Lady Tigers leaving them with a season mark of 29-14. Despite the year ending somewhat short of what all the Lady Tigers and their fans hoped it would, it was a special year which included some very big regular season wins, a sectional tournament championship and a win in the first round of the sub-state.
