Spiritual Reflections
True worship requires no special accommodations
Pat Ozment, Jr.
This morning Rev. John, one of his students from the Northern Ghana Baptist Seminary, and I worshiped in the village of Moglaa, with Rev. Peter, the pastor, and the members of the Moglaa Baptist Church. Peggy was not feeling well.

For some the worship would be too loud, too long, and too hot. The benches would be too hard, and the sanctuary too crowded.

But beyond that was the spirit, the reverence, the awe, the excitement, the expectancy, the commitment, the faith, and the love. There was no pretense. It was real, almost raw. It was as direct a connection as I have ever seen, between the most high and Holy God, and a most low and humble humanity.

Many of us would pass the church by, looking for something a bit more upscale. The building is old, the oldest Baptist Church in the Tamale Association. It was nothing fancy when new, and now the plaster is crumbling. There is no glass or screen in the window openings. The paint is faded and the bare concrete floor is cracked. There is no ceiling to hide the rafters or the underside of the tin roof. There is no sound system, no piano or organ, no lights or fans, but as the 20 or so young people in the choir sang to the room packed full of worshipers, about being light, and salt in the world, the angel of darkness fled.

Rev. John preached from Deuteronomy 10:12, "And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God , to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul".

We had Church this morning. Oh yes, they are building a new sanctuary, next to the old one. They are building it with their own hands a little at a time. They are poor farming people, most make less than $2.00 a day, so the progress is slow.

I came here to bring these people something from the States. Now I hope I can take something they have, back home.

Ask what the Lord thy God requires of thee, and I'll see you in Church.
