The Thomasville Tigers ended their spring football practice this past Friday, May 18, when they defeated the Southern Choctaw Indians 13 0 in both the varsity and junior varsity portions of the spring game for the two teams.

In the junior varsity quarter which was played first, the Tiger defense held the Indians on their first possession forcing a punt that gave the Thomasville offense the ball at their own 25 yard line. Taking the ball there the Tigers got on the scoreboard on their first offensive play when David Foster galloped 75 yards to pay dirt. Harrison Lewis added the extra-point and the Tigers led - 0 with 9:52 remaining in the period.

The Tigers stopped the Indians again on their next possession taking over this time at the Thomasville 28 yard line following a punt. It appeared for a moment that the Tigers were going to have two touchdowns on their first two offensive plays, when Tevin Pope scampered 72 yards for an apparent Thomasville touchdown on the first play of this possession. The play was called back for holding however and the Tigers didn't score on that possession running out of steam at the Indian 26 yard line where they turned it over on downs.

With Southern Choctaw moving the ball down the field for what would have been a tying score Travis Foster picked off an Indian aerial with 1:11 to play in the quarter giving the Tiger offense the ball at midfield. Then with: 36 remaining in the period, Thomasville's Rayshawn Cain hooked up with Kendarius Spears on a 50 yard touchdown pass to add to the Thomasville lead. Harrison Lewis' extrapoint attempt failed leaving the Tigers margin of victory at 13 - 0.

In the second quarter of the night, the two teams squared off in what was to be the first of three quarters of varsity action. As was the case in the junior varsity quarter, Southern Choctaw got the ball first in the varsity play. They were unable to do anything with it however as the Tiger defense stuffed them forcing a punt that Tiger deep back Alex Buford fair caught at the Thomasville 43 yard line.

From there the Thomasville offense set sail on a drive that was culminated on a 28 yard Alex Buford to Tysean Thompson scoring strike. Cameron Dunegan added the extra-point and Thomasville led 7-0 with 8:40 remaining in the first period.

After the score, the Tiger defense continued their stingy play, stopping the Indians in their next possession and forcing what would turn out to be a bad punt that set Thomasville up at the Indian 46 yard line. Wasting no time the Tigers once again marched to pay dirt this time scoring on a four yard plunge by Alex Buford. Cameron Dunegan's extrapoint missed mark leaving the Tiger lead at 13-0.

Little did anyone know at the time that the 13-0 lead would stand up for the final two periods giving Thomasville a win that matched that of the junior varsity. As it turned out the second half belonged to the defenses on both sides as they basically kept the opposing offenses in check.

Tiger Head Coach Jack Hankins found several positives in what his charges did in Friday's jamboree. "I thought our defense flew to the ball well and were solid most of the night," the Coach said. "Offensively we made some strides but still have a long way to go. I did think Alex Buford ran the offense well and he really surprised us with his throwing."
