"To Kill a Mockingbird" Teacher Workshop On July 17, from 9 a.m. til 12 noon there will be a teacher workshop, on scenes and stories of Monroeville "To Kill a Mockingbird", at the Old Courtshouse Museum. Admission is free and for more information contact Monroe County Heritage Museums at 251-575-7433, also at mchm@frontiernet.net. This workshop includes two panels. The first, "Mockingbird Summers- Visits with the Citizens of Monroeville" includes a slide show designed to enhance the understanding of the classic American novel, " To Kill a Mockingbird," for teachers and readers of the book. In a slide presentation, valuable information is given about the author, Harper Lee, and her hometown of Monroeville. The fictional town of Maycomb with its people, places, and events come alive through slides of Monroeville- present day and years past. In addition, you'll hear stories from people who lived here during the time of the book and get much sought after background material to make the "Monroeville-Maycomb connection" The second panel, "Moments of Courage-Against the Odds" centers on specific references to the era of the book. The panelists discuss the education, economic and social life for African-American in Monroe County. Don't miss the opportunity to hear the members of this panel and participate in the workshop. How to get here from Montgomery: go I-65 S. Take exit 93 Evergreen/Monroeville. Turn right onto US-84 W. for 26 miles. At the first traffic light take a right on Hwy. 21 into Monroeville.
