Spiritual Reflections
Ever experienced a power outage
Pat Ozment, Jr.
Have you ever experienced a power outage. I know you have.

Today, in Tamale, we have no electrical power. Because of a national shortage of electrical power in Ghana, the government has scheduled 12 hour black-outs every four days, all across the country. These black-outs last from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The country is divided into sectors, with each sector on a different black-out schedule.

In addition to the day time black-outs, there are night time black-outs. These occur 2 days after the day time black-outs, and they last from 6:p.m. until 6:00 a.m. So by design, we have no electrical power 24 hours out of every 96 hours, if they follow the schedule. Sometimes they change it without notification.

In addition to that, there are almost daily, unscheduled power outages, caused by break downs in the distribution system, which is overloaded and improperly maintained. Now reconsider my initial question.

Don't complain about your Rural Electric Corporation, or the Alabama Power Company. Being over here gives you a different perspective on a number of things. Electrical power is not the most important one.

How about our Spiritual Power. How many times have you thrown the switch, and disconnected yourself from your Spiritual Power supply, because there was something you wanted that you could not have if you stayed connected? When we do that, the down time is always longer, and more difficult to reverse, than we intended.

How about the times we have a Spiritual Power interruption that we did not plan? That's not our fault, right? Well, unscheduled interruptions are caused by our failure to maintain our distribution system. You know the distribution system made up of prayer, Bible study, meditation, worship and Christian fellowship.

You know it was a lot more fun to gripe about the electrical power problem, than is to talk about my Spiritual Power problem. Maybe I ought to quit talking and do a little system maintenance. Check your connections, and your distribution lines, and I'll see you…….in Church.
