Willie Flora "Bill" Vice Dixon

Willie Flora "Bill" Vice Dixon, age 98, a homemaker of Linden, passed away Friday, June 15, 2007 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital. She was born April 1, 1909, in Sweet Water. She was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church where she taught the Forward Sunday School Class for 45 years.

Funeral services were held at Providence Baptist Church in Gallion, on Monday, June 18, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Paul Whitcomb officiating. Burial was at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Gallion.

She was preceded in death by: husband, Lee Dixon; son, Leslie R. Dixon; parents, Columbus I. Vice and Lula Glass Vice; brother, Joel Vice; sister, Margurite Ballard.

She is survived by: son, Arthur L. Dixon of Gallion; daughter, Edwena Barnes of Linden; daughter-in-law, Ethel Dixon of Riverview, Mich.; six grandchildren, Vicki Barnes of Linden, Lisa (Bobby) Skelton of Tuscaloosa, Dee (Glenn) Roark of Demopolis, Jill (Webb) Tutt of Demopolis, Kevin L. (Carol) Dixon of Linden, Margie (Paul) Ettlick of Riverview, Mich.; nine grandchildren, Lauren Roark, Brandon Roark, Cameron Brister, Callie Brister, David Tutt, William Tutt, Robert Tutt, Cooper Dixon, Zachery Ettlick.

Active pallbearers were: Kevin Dixon, Brandon Roark, Glenn Roark, Cameron Brister, Webb Tutt, Bobby Skelton.

Honorary pallbearers were: Members of the Progressive Sunday School Class at Providence Baptist Church.

Walter Glass, Jr.

Walter Glass, Jr. age 85, of Thomasville, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Thomasville. He was born October 1, 1921 in Linden. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and retired superintendent with the State Highway Department. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at Liberty Baptist Church on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Faircloth and Rev. David Grayson officiating. Burial was in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.

He is survived by: wife, Virginia Glass; three daughters, Carol (Cecil) Hill, Kaye (Danny) Harrison all of Thomasville and Judy McLean of Montgomery; two sons, John Glass of Grove Hill and Jimmy (Nancy) Glass of Nanafalia; brother, Leon (Sarah) Glass of Linden; sister, Betty (Paul) Gunter of Monroeville; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were: Mike Gunter, Jason Robertson, Dwayne Gates, Randy Gates, Terry Gates and Dennis Drinkard.

Honorary pallbearers were: Deacons of Liberty Baptist Church, Willard Gates, Tiny Drinkard, Jackie Jarman, Mitt Gates, Clyce Drinkard and Don Jordan.

Ivedell Kast

Ivedell Kast, age 84, passed away June 18, 2007 in Hartselle. He was born April 10, 1923 in Alabama. She was a homemaker and a member of Lighthouse Church in Pine Hill.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, with burial in the Roselawn Cemetery. Rev. Brad Eades officiated the service.

She was preceded in death by: parents, George Henry Faircloth and Allie Leoma Ryals Faircloth; four brothers, Narvie Lee Faircloth, Willie J. Faircloth, J. C. Faircloth, and L. C. Faircloth, and sister, Myrtice Kast.

She is survived by: son, Hannas Theo (Rose) Kast, Jr. of Pine Hill; six daughters, Jeanette (Fred) Jones of Tuscumbia, Jo Ann Eddy of Hartselle, Charlotte Marion of Louisville, Ky., Sheila (Randy) Dunnam of Waynesboro, Miss., Rhonda (Donald) Morgan of Pine Hill and Teresa Johnston of Cullman; sister, Essie Mae Dawson of Pace, Fla.; very special niece, Tina Caffey of Fairhope; nineteen grandchildren, Randy Jones, Nicole Spurgeon, Mark Eddy, Chris Eddy, Hannas Theo "Trey" Kast, III, Andrew Kast, Benjamin Kast, Angie Kast, Connie Kast, Kesha Marion, Micah Marion, Elise Marion, Justin Dunnam, Hannah Lacey Barnes, Salome Morgan, Ivan Kast, Marley Kast, Jared Johnston, Josh Johnston; fourteen great grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were: great grandsons.

Elizabeth Toinett Cannon Schroeder

Elizabeth Toinett Cannon Schroeder, age 93, of Linden, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Marengo Nursing Home in Linden. She was born May 16, 1914 in the Hugo Community. She was an employee of the Linden Manfacturing Company for many years and a homemaker. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Linden.

Funeral services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Linden, on Sunday, June 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Daniel Gandy and Rev. Brooks Barkley officiating. Burial was at the Old Octagon Cemetery in Linden.

She was preceded in death by: parents, Tony Columbus and Mary Elizabeth Cannon; husband, Ernest Franklin Schroeder; son, James Arthur Schroeder; three brothers, Charles Cannon, Sr., Jimmy George Cannon, Taylor Harrell Cannon, Sr.; two sisters, Clara Mae Taylor and Betty Lou Cannon.

She is survived by: daughter, Ernestene (Ben) Ballard; five sons, Larry Wayne (Mary) Schroeder, Franklin Wade Schroeder, Danny Gene (JoAnn) Schroeder, Sammy Dean Schroeder all of Linden, Bernard Gaines (Shirley) Schroeder of Thomasville; six grandchildren, Rhonda Lee (Gordon) Stevens of Mobile, Rachel Carol Schroeder of Tuscaloosa, Leta Lavon (Richard) Alling and Christopher Scott (Sara) Schroeder of Pensacola, Fla., Scott Gaines Schroeder and Brad Steven Schroeder of Thomasville; seven great grandchildren; five sisters, Sadie Rhea Davidson and Merle Wingate both of Linden, Dorothy Ward of Mt. Vernon, Mary Alice (Jasper) Daniels of Mobile, Inez Kimbrough of Daphne; brother, Tony Earl (Gwen) Cannon, Sr. of Linden.

Active pallbearers were: Brent Taylor, Kenneth Cannon, Terry Taylor, Dan McManus, Royce Schroeder, Gene Sammons.

Honorary pallbearers were: Staff of Marengo Nursing Home.

Funeral services for Johnnie Mae Smiley will be held Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the New Hope No. I Baptist Church in Thomasville. Rev. James G. Curry will be officiating. Reese's Funeral Home will be in charge of the service.

She is the mother of Otis Nathaniel (Emma) Smiley, Helen S. Johnson, Henry (Esmeraldo) Smiley, Ernest (Annie Ruth) Smiley and Alberta (Charlie) Dixon.

Robert "Bobby" Dallas Thomas, Jr.

Robert "Bobby" Dallas Thomas, Jr., age 50, a retired automotive mechanic of Sweet Water, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007 at his home. He was born July 5, 1956 in Birmingham.

Funeral services were held at Geneva Presbyterian Church on Monday, June 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Scott Armstrong officiating. Burial was at Geneva Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sweet Water.

He is survived by: aunt and foster mother, Helen Barr Breckenridge of Sweet Water; two daughters, Robin Thomas and Helen Renee Thomas both of Demopolis; sister, Joyce Oltman; two nieces, Jennifer Obert of Atlanta, Ga. and Jill Barton of Boston, Mass. ; uncle, Ralph Barr; four friends, Billy Glass, Johnny Ray, Russ Walters, and Donna Glass; a host of cousins and friends.

Active pallbearers were: Billy Glass, Johnny Ray, Julian Anderson, Jeff Tucker, Gene Tolbert and Russ Walters.

Honorary pallbearers were: Michael Williams, Jr., Dennis Barkley, Charles A. Tucker, Phillip Reddick, Jimmy Reddick, Automotive Mechanic Department at Georgia Pacific Paper and Herman Huckabee.
