SWHS HOBY and Leadership Representative
David attended the HOBY Conference the weekend of May 18-20. During the conference, he experienced and met with many dynamic leaders-all volunteers from the fields of business, education, government and other professions. Addresses were given by the leaders that focused on the different aspects of our changing world and the challenges future leaders will confront. The program did not promote any particular party, business, religion or way of thinking; but it focused on developing an awareness of present and future issues by the participants getting involved in discussion and informal debates. The participants were given an opportunity to ask questions of the discussion leaders throughout the weekend. David and other participants were asked to become a part of HOBY commitment to "Leadership for Service." By undertaking a community service project( s) involving at least 100 hours and join 335,000 other HOBY alumni nationwide who have made a difference in their school, community, place of worship or other "environment" in which they saw a need. When asked about his experience at HOBY, David responded by saying "I learned about the vast number of careers and what they entailed for me. I was glad that I was chosen as a delegate and hope to return next year to be a part of the alumni staff. This was a challenging and enjoyable experience that I would encourage other students to participate."
David also attended the Alabama Youth Leadership programs Conference at Auburn University Montgomery, June 1- 3, 2007 David is actively involved in school and community activities such asserving as 1" Lieutenant in the SWHS Band, member of SADD (Student Against Destructive Decisions); Beta Club; Coeditor of Newspaper; Member of the Annual Staff; member and organist of the County Line Baptist Church; SCAP (School Community Pride volunteer program); Academic Express Club.
