Drinkard says boat races a success
For the first in seven years screaming boats made their way down a quarter-mile section of the Tombigbee River, competing in the Hole Shot boat races. The races, held at Campbell's Landing, saw boaters in various classes from several southern states. An estimated crowd of almost 2,000 braved the hot temperatures to watch the two-day event overseen by the Outboard Drag Boat Association. The Thomasville High School Quarterback Club sponsored the event. "It was a learning experience, but a successful learning experience," Club President Daryl Drinkard said. Drinkard was thankful for all of the people coming out to watch the races as well as to local law enforcement and to the marine police for their help in crowd control over the two days. Here two boats scream towards the finish line in one of the early races of the weekend.
