Spiritual Reflections
Security of the believer
Pat Ozment, Jr.
Last night we were up late because we were waiting the arrival of our houseguest for the night. She is from Equador, in South America, and a student at a university in Canada. She is here in Ghana as an intern in a program that promotes the welfare of children.

It was late, and I had begun to secure the house for the night, when our neighbors returned home bringing our guest with them.

I went to welcome them back, and receive our guest.

It was then that I discovered that I could not find a set of keys that included the only key to one of the doors to our house, and one of the keys to our truck. I don't know about you, but I become greatly distressed when I cannot find something.

Peggy says that distressed is an understatement. I become driven, to find that which is lost.

I turned the house upside down looking for the keys, with no luck. I went outside and looked, still no keys. Finally I was persuaded to go to bed, though I could not lock the back door.

This morning Peggy and I resumed the search at 6:15. We looked, enlisting the aid of everyone in the compound. No one could find them. Finally Peggy said, "let's stop and have our quiet time," so we did.

At the close of our devotional time we sang praise songs. When I prayed I asked God to show me where the keys were. I got up from my chair and went over to the hook above the door where the keys belonged.

On the floor directly below the hook were our outside shoes. I picked one of mine up and the keys fell out.

For several days I've been reading a book by Dr. Charles Stanley on the doctrine of "The Security of the Believer." I had, just that evening, read where he used the parables of "The Lost Coin," "The Lost Sheep," and "The Prodigal Son." God is distressed over one lost soul. "For He is not willing that any should perish." He has given us the task of helping the lost to be found. Some helped us.

See you in church.
