T'ville all-star boys go 2-0 in sub-district

Thomasville's 9& 10 year old All-Star baseball team moved to 2 and 0 in Sub- District play picking up wins in both of their first two games. On Friday, June 22, the Thomasville squad defeated the All-Stars from Sweet Water 15 - 11. They followed that win up with an 11-3 win over the Grove Hill All-Stars on Monday, June 25.

In Friday's action Thomasville used three pitchers to subdue Sweet Water with Sammy Jackson getting the start and working the first two innings. Dax Dozier followed Jackson and pitched the third and fourth innings.

Thomasville closed the game with Wil Brasell working the final two innings.

On offense Jacobs Brewer and Sammy Jackson led the charge for Thomasville with two hits each. Joining them with one hit apiece were; Wil Brasell, Ryan Calhoun, Nic Council, Seth Downey and Trevor Wood. Brewer was the leader in extra-base hits with a double and a triple while Brasell added a triple.

In Monday's game with Clarke County neighbor Grove Hill, Wil Brasell got the start and pitched a complete game to pick up the win. In his six innings of work he allowed three runs on six hits while striking out eight batters.

At the plate Jacobs Brewer was the leader with three hits followed by Wil Brasell, Dax Dozier and Tye Williamson with two hits each. Adding one hit apiece to the fourteen hit attack were; Nic Council, T. J. Detlefsen, Matthew Hicks, Sammy Jackson and Spencer Smoker. In the extra-base hit category; Brasell, Brewer, and Detlefsen all had triples while Dozier, Hicks and Smoker each had a double Thomasville was scheduled to continue play in the winners' bracket of the tournament this week.

The Thomasville Ponytail softball team (11 & 12 year olds) lost their first game in the Sub-District Tournament being held in Gilbertown and then rebounded with two straight wins to move into Monday's action with a 2 and 1 record.

The loss came on Friday, June 22, when the Thomasville girls fell to Butler 10-8. The Butler squad jumped on top 4-0 after three innings and then scored six in the bottom of the fifth to pick up the win. Tiffany Baugh who started on the mound for Thomasville worked two innings in which she allowed two runs. Allie Pope followed her for the next two innings also allowing two runs. Tiffany Drinkard worked the final two innings in which she allowed six runs and was charged with the loss.

At the plate Tiffany Drinkard led the Thomasville attack with two hits followed by Tiffany Baugh and Brianna Newton with one hit each. Newton led the way in the extra-base hit category with a homerun.

Things got better on Saturday, June 23 when Thomasville opened the day's action with an 8-0 shutout of Gilbertown. Thomasville took charge in this one early scoring one run in each of their first four at bats and then adding four in the sixth for the final margin of victory, Tiffany Drinkard, who was the Thomasville starter, evened her tournament mark at 1 and 1 picking up the win after blanking her opponent in the first two innings of the game. Allie Pope followed her with two shutout innings of her own and then turned it over to Tiffany Baugh who followed suit with two more scoreless innings.

On offense Destiny Dunning and Callie Jackson led Thomasville with two hits each while Tiffany Baugh, Brianna Newton and Allie Pope added one hit apiece. Baugh had the only extra-base hit with a double.

The Thomasville girls made it two in a row later in the day on Saturday, when the edged Grove Hill 3-2. In this one Thomasville took a 2-1 lead after the first inning, added one in the third and then held on for the one run victory- Tiffany Drinkard got the start again for Thomasville and worked the first two innings of the game allowing one run. Allie Pope came on for the second pair of innings again and allowed one run during her stint. Tiffany Baugh pitched the final two innings holding her opponents scoreless to preserve the win.

Tiffany Drinkard was the leader on offense with two hits followed by Brianna Newton, Allie Pope and Faith Vick with one.

Thomasville was next scheduled to take on Wilcox on Monday, June 25 as tournament play continued, but those games were rained out until Tuesday.
