Darlings and Angels go one and one

Both the Thomasville Dixie Darlings (7 & 8 year olds ) and the Thomasville Dixie Angels (9 & 10 year olds ) softball teams entered this week with a 1 and 1 record in Sub-District Tournament play. Both team were scheduled to play their third game in subdistrict action on Monday, June 25. in Gilbertown, site of the Tournament for both age groups. The Darlings were slated to meet the team from Sumter County while the Angels were matched up with the girls from Linden.
In tournament play to date the Darlings won their first game of the tournament on Friday, June 22 when they defeated Sweet Water 23-2. In the game the Thomsaville squad pounded out 20 hits led by three hit performances from Ashley Baugh, Abbigail

Carpenter, and Haleigh Chaney. Joining them with two hits each were; Morgan Brasell, Kalisha Hudson, Lauren Lawrence, Jessika Newberry, Haley Norris, Ashby Shelley, and Brelee Vick. Katherine Lee Bishop rounded out the attack with one hit.
Unfortunately the results on Saturday, June 23 weren't quite as good with the 7 & 8 year old girls from Thomasville falling to Butler 12-1.Thcy did manage to get eight hits in the losing effort led by Kalisha Hudson and Ashby Shelley with two hits each.
Joining them with one hit apiece were; Ashley Baugh, Haleigh Chaney, Jessika Newberry and Haley Norris.
Although the record for the Angels after two games was the same as the Darlings, the way it came about was totally opposite. The Angels opened the tournament with a 20-13 loss to Grove Hill on Friday, June 22. In the game the girls from Grove Hill jumped on top 11-2 after the first inning and were never behind in the contest. Cayleigh Miller started on the mound for Thomasville and was tagged with the loss working one inning.
Katherine Hill followed her for 1/3 inning before giving way to Jessi Dean for the final 4 2/3 innings.
At the plate Kelli Garrett had the hot bat for Thomasville with three hits. Mallory Broadus, Cayleigh Miller and Sarah Morgan were next with two hits each while Hannah Hawk had one. In the extra-base hit category Garrett had a triple and Miller had a double.
Following Friday's loss the Angels rebounded on Saturday, June 23 with a 4-3 win over Demopolis. Cayleigh Miller was the starter on the mound again for Thomasville and picked up the win with six strong innings of pitching.
On offense Thomasville made the most of their 10 hits in this one with Kelli Garrctt, Katherine Hill, Cayleigh Miller, and Sarah Morgan leading the charge with two hits each. Joining them with one hit apiece was Mallory Broadus and Star Morrisette.
Morgan had the only extrabase hit with a double.
The girls' games were rained out Monday.
