Spiritual Reflections
I attended church Wednesday night at First Baptist Tamale, and participated in another Ghana thing. They have put "prayer" back in "prayer meeting." In America, we don't pray enough. How much is enough? It seems good to ask God's word. Acts 6:4 says, "continually in prayer." Romans 12:12 says, "steadfastly in prayer." Ephesians 6:18 says, "always with all prayer." Philippians 4:6 says, "but in everything by prayer." In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 it says, "pray without ceasing. "In Luke 11:1 the disciples asked, "Lord teach us to pray. "Jesus said in Luke 18:1, "men ought always to pray." In Matthew 26 His disciples slept when He said, "watch and pray." Mark 6:46 tells us that Jesus"went to the mountains to pray," and in Luke 6:12 it tells us that Jesus prayed to God all night. Go back to that "Ghana thing," prayer meeting lasted a little over an hour and everyone was actively involved in praying out loud, individually, for 45 minutes. The rest of the time was divided between exhortation and praise. I was moved with the intensity of the prayer, and the sense of urgency in the prayer. I wonder what would happen if all the churches in America began to pray like that. Our brothers and sisters here, realize that they must pray to the most High and Holy God, the Father of Jesus Christ, because from the mosque, 5 times each day, the followers of Islam are called to pray to Allah. There are more mosque in Tamale than there are mosquitoes. At about 4:30 a.m. every one of those mosque sounds the call to prayer. That's our alarm clock. It ought to be our wakeup call. "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land."
Pray for revival and I'll see you in church.
