OBITUARIES Robert Clarke Robert Clarke, age 76, passed away Tuesday morning June 26, 2007. He was born November 23, 1930, in Thomasville and confessed Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist Church (presently known as New Greater First Baptist Church). He was also a man who enjoyed playing and watching sports throughout his life. He attended Alabama A&M and joined the U. S. Army. He played sports for both during his time there. In 1994 he was one of twelve former A&M players to be inducted into the University's Hall of Fame. He retired from Douglas Aircraft (Boeing) after 40 years. He enjoyed watching and supporting The Thomasville Community's Sports program. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at New Greater First Baptist Church with Rev. Carlton Hogue and Rev. Clabon Autry officiating. Burial was at the New Hope No. 1 Baptist Church Cemetery. He was preceded in death by: parents, Joe and Blanche Clarke; first wife, Bessie Surrell; second wife, Effie Lancaster; sister, Shirley B. George; two brothers, James and Elbert Clarke. He is survived by: one son, Rev. Chris (Jeanette) Surrell of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Nancy Clarke of Carson, Calif.; two brothers, Joe (Jessie) Clarke of Los Angeles, Calif. and Alex (Jeanetta) Davis; and one sister, Merkerline Talley of Thomasville; two sister-in-laws, Hildra Clarke of Thomasville and Alvernice Clarke of Oakland, Calif.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends; a special cousin, James (Pauline) Thompson of Thomasville; special friends, Eugene (Ledora) Woods of Montgomery and T. A. Morrisette of Thomasville. Active pallbearers were: Deacons of New Greater First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers were: Alphonzo Arnold, Oris Dickinson, Lorenzo Johnson, Eugene Mixon, T. A. Morrisette, Eugene Woods, Louis "Sonny" McAboy, Charles Allen, Jimmy Dumas and young men from the Thomasville City Schools Athletic Department. Mary Austeen Dismukes Cogle Mary Austeen Dismukes Cogle, age 87, of Thomasville, went home to her Savior on July 1, 2007, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. She was born November 9, 1919 in Pine Hill to the late Russell and Mary Olive Davis Dismukes. She spent her early years in Shiloh and was a graduate of Dixons Mills High School. In May 1938, she married Bruce A. Cogle, Jr. They lived out their married life in Thomasville. She was a member of numerous clubs and volunteer programs. A dedicated member of Central Baptist Church in Dixons Mills and loved to share her faith with others. Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville on Friday, July 6, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Aaron Carpenter and Nathan Hamilton officiating. Burial was at the Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville. She was preceded in death by her infant son Ronald Cogle. Survivors include her husband of 69 years Bruce A. Cogle, Jr. of Thomasville; two daughters, Rosalyn (Robert) Templin of Lillian and Mary Olive (Jimmy) Hasty of Linden; one son, Bruce A. (Kathy) Cogle, III of Fairhope; six grandchildren, Robert Templin, Jr. (Dale) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mary (Scott) Altorfer of Peoria, Ill., Jim (Katie) Hasty of Atlanta, Ga., Carol Anne Elrod of Linden; Callie Cogle of Birmingham, Bruce Cogle IV of Fairhope; and nine great grandchildren; one brother, Jack (Marie) Dismukes of Spanish Fort; two sisters, Margie (Bob) Kindle of Jacksonville, Fla. and Eloise D. Todd of Dublin, Va. Pallbearers were: Robert Templin, Jr., Robert Templin III, Jim Hasty, Scott Altorfer, Bruce Cogle IV and Lee Hamilton. The family would like to express their appreciation to the people of Marengo Nursing Home and Thomasville Nursing Home for the care and kindness shown to their loved one. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville directed. Darrell Pendleton Darrell Pendleton, age 51, of Toledo, Ohio passed away July 2, 2007. He retired from Riverview Nursing Home and was in the U.S. Army, discharged honorably. Funeral services were held at First Baptist of Whatley on July 7, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Burial was at the First Baptist of Whatley Cemetery. Rev. Fernell Pendeton officiated the service. He is survived by: father, J. C. Pendleton and mother, Earl Dean Pendleton; 3 brothers, Charles (Bessie) Love, Rev. Fernell Pendleton and Rayford Pendleton; seven sisters, Diane Blake, Chrissie Lean Butler, Carol Donald, Linda Hodge, Sharon Nichols, Dora Dean Bullard and Angela Pendleton. Cecil Clyde Rogers Cecil Clyde Rogers, age 85, a carpenter of Tampa, Fla. passed away July 2, 2007 at Sun City Hospice in Tampa. He was born November 29, 1921 in Aimwell. He was a former resident of Atlanta, Ga. and a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Atlanta. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Funeral services were held at Aimwell Baptist Church on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Jeffrey Mayton and Rev. Lon Baxter officiating. Burial was at Aimwell Baptist Church Cemetery, in Sweet Water. He is survived by: two daughters, Sally Rogers (Bob) Engel of Grove, Okla. and Cindy Rogers (John) Dillard of Tampa; one sister, Inez Rogers of Montgomery; one grandchild, Nick Allin of Atlanta. Amiamie Rodgers Weatherly Amiamie Rodgers Weatherly, age 73, passed away June 28, 2007. She was born December 3, 1933 in Wilcox County. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the New Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where she served in the choir. She was a member of Harris Beauty Chapter #526 Order of Eastern Star. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7, 2007 at New Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Lower Peachtree at 12:00 noon with Rev. Corey Morrow and Rev. Lucy Carson officiating. Burial was in the New Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery. She was preceded in death by: husband, Wesley James Weatherly; parents, David and Willie L. Rodgers; three brothers, Clyde, David Jr., and Aldopha Rodgers; one sister, Carrie Howard; four brother-inlaws, one sister-in-law and a close friend, Katherine Crawford. She is survived by: nine children, Lucy (Lloyd) Carson of Sunny South; Elizabeth (Fred) King of Pine Hill; Richard (Beryl) Weatherly of Lower Peachtree; Lelia M. Weatherly of Birmingham; Tommie (Sharon) Weatherly and Raymond P. Weatherly both of Pine Hill; Marvin (Caroline) Weatherly of Lower Peachtree; Eddie W. Weatherly and Peter (Dora) Weatherly both of Pine Hill; one god-daughter, Bobbie J. Howard of Atlanta, Ga.; mother-in-law, Eunice Kennedy; three brothers, Roosevelt (Geraldine) Rodgers, Edgar (Helen) Rodgers and Eddie Rodgers; two sisters, Hannah Gastin and Earlene Poole; five sister-in-laws, Della Rodgers, Marshall Ealy, Cora Johnson, Geraldine Horn and Dorothy Carlton; best friends, Jeanette Grayson (cousin), Ruth McCaskey, Aneice and Mose Welch; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
