Fear of reprisals is insulting
Arthur McLean
Isaw a story the other day reporting about Scottish muslims who were scared of potential backlash from the attempted bombing of Glasgow Airport.

I remember seeing very similar stories after 9/11 and just about any terrorist incident the past decade.

So, what kinds of backlash are they afraid of? Are they afraid that radical Christians or Jews might load up a car with explosives and detonate it in the middle of a working class muslim neighborhood? Are they scared that a radical Buddhist will strap dynamite and nails to his chest and blow himself up in the middle of a grocery store frequented by muslim customers?

Maybe the fear is more personal. Maybe the muslims living in the U.S., Scotland or other western nation are afraid of being kidnapped right off the street, taken away, tortured and beheaded by radical Jehova's Witnesses or Mormons.

Sounds pretty ludacris doesn't it? Sure it does, the muslims living in western countries are really afraid of things like a little graffiti, or maybe someone calling them a bad name, and yet, we get these headlines that make it sound like the muslims living in western countries are under some kind of immenent threat for their lives and safety.

It's insulting.

But travel to any number of muslim nations and you'll be under direct threat of kidnapping, bombing and any number of other events that lead to violent death for westerners. Where's the headline for that?

Here's some advice for our peace-loving muslim friends living in western nations.

Quit whining and do something to stop the acts of terrorism the adherents to your religion are perpetrating. Then maybe one day, you won't live in constant fear that some westerner might call you a bad name after the adherents to your religion bombed the mess out of another western building full of innocents.
