AFOA donates book to Library

The Thomasville Public Library is the recipient of the book: "Owning and Managing Forests" by Thom J. McEvoy. "Owning and Managing Forests" was donated by the Alabama Forest Owner's Association Educational Fund through a grant from the Alabama Forests Forever Foundation in an attempt to provide sound forest management information to current and future landowners in Clarke County.

"Owning and Managing Forests" is both an accessible overview of the privileges, rights and obligations that accompany forest ownership and a guidebook to help active forest owners and managers use laws to their advantage and avoid the pitfalls of expensive and exhausting litigation. In the book, McEvoy provides chapters on the rights of private property, acquiring and owning forest lands, surveys and boundaries, managing and using forest land, forest-management contracts, ethics in forestry practice, forest taxation, planning for woodlands in estates, and dispute settlements. "Owning and Managing Forests" provides clear and concise descriptions of often confusing concepts and difficult subjects, and addresses issues in a competent yet conversational tone. Anyone involved with owning and managing forestland will find the book an essential guide and reference.

The Alabama Forest Owners' Association (AFOA) is a non-profit association dedicated to providing management and ownership assistance to current and future owners of the twenty-three million acres of forested land in Alabama. To learn more about the association or about events of interest to forest owners, call AFOA at (205) 987-8811 or visit AFOA's website at http://www.afoa.org.
