Pine Hill upholds police officer's firing from unit The Pine Hill City council voted to accept Ashford Packer's resignation from the Pine Hill Police Department Tuesday night. Packer was fired and later given the option to resign after wrecking a police car while chasing a four-wheeler around an apartment complex. Charges of racism were thrown out in the regular council meeting last week by council member Donnie Calhoun, who wanted Packer reinstated to the job. The council met Tuesday to hear a report from the town's insurance company and to discuss Packer's record. The council met for 45 minutes in a closed executive session. Packer and then police chief John Brown were called in to the meeting.
After the executive session ended, the council voted to accept Packer's resignation. Calhoun abstained from voting.
