OBITUARIES

Gilmer Beverly

Gilmer Beverly, age 91, of Thomasville, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Camden Nursing Facility in Camden. He was a retired wholesale grocery salesman. He was a member of Thomasville United Methodist Church, the VFW Post 5106 of Thomasville, Clarke County Historical Society and a volunteer for the Salvation Army.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Thomasville United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Philip Craddock officiating. Burial was at Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville.

He is survived by: wife, Mary D. Beverly; son, Chris D. Beverly both of Thomasville; seven nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were: Ed Arrington, Greg Cotton, Truitte Jackson, Mike Rowell, Jon Jordan, Mitch Beverly and Byron Beverly.

Honorary pallbearers were: Thomasville UMC Men's Bible Class, Interdenominational Prayer Group, and A. I. "Red" Sims, Dr. Frank Dozier, John Adams and Carroll Scarbrough.

Memorial may be made to the Thomasville UMC Organ Fund or to the United Methodist Children's Home in Selma.

George William Cassity

George William Cassity, age 88, a carpenter of Gallion, passed away Monday, July 16, 2007 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He was born June 7, 1919, in Rock Springs. He was a member of Cornerstone Church in Linden. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Rob Wynne officiating. Burial was in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.

He is survived by: wife, Gladys Wilkerson Cassity; daughter, Charlotte (John) Crepps; two sons, George Thomas (Debbie) Cassity and Danny (Joy) Cassity, all of Gallion; sister, Gertrude Coffman of Seneca, S. C.; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Brandon Crepps, Jeremy Cassity, Joshua Cassity, Jay Wilson, Tripp Wynne and Justin Webb.

Hank Williams Champion

Hank Williams Champion, age 51, of Pine Hill, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2007 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. He was born Monday, November 7, 1955 in Pine Hill. He was a tree trimmer with Champion Tree and Debris Removal Service. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Sunday, July 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carl Williams officiating. Burial was in Kelly Cemetery in Pine Hill.

He is survived by: wife, Eva Jean Champion; son, Chase Champion; two daughters, Lisa Agee and Lynne Champion, all of Pine Hill; five brothers, John Champion of Scyrene; Cornelius "Tip" Champion of Dixons Mills; "Taterbug" Champion of Arlington; Ronnie Champion of Thomasville and Henry Champion of Pine Hill; three sisters, Patricia Klug of Pine Hill; Jan Calvert of Columbus, Miss. and Sandy Champion of Pine Hill; seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Henry Champion, Cornelius "Tip" Champion, Ronnie Champion, John Champion, Travis Agee, Hunter Champion and "Taterbug" Champion.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Neil Champion, John Brunson, Joe Hicks, Jr., Vic Winters and Quintin Mann.

Willie Thomas Dews

Willie Thomas Dews, age 65, a carpenter of Whatley, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Mobile Infirmary. He attended Grove Hill Methodist Protestant Church.

Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, on Monday, July 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Charles Rush officiating. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery in Dixons Mills.

He is survived by: wife, Janie Georjean Dews of Pensacola, Fla.; two sons, Heath Micah Dews of Pensacola, and Ricky Thomas Dews of Jonesboro, Ark.; two daughters, Carissa Courtney of Pensacola, and Melanie Lynn Scherff of Carsbad, Calif.; brother, Guy Dews of Jackson; three sisters, Katie Lou Yow of Ocean Springs, Miss.; Elmer Grey Wixey of Grove Hill; Carrie Alford of Thomasville; four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Patrick Alford, Brandon Gates, Justin Webb, Andy Turner, Alvin Kennedy, Todd Ready, Jason Brooks, Seth Drinkard and Chris Dunagan.

M. D. Horn

M. D. Horn, age 74, of Indian Ridge, passed away July 18, 2007, at a Mobile hospital. He was born September 18, 1932.

Funeral services were held July 24, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Indian Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Elvis Young officiating. Burial was at Indian Ridge Cemetery.

He is survived by: two sons, Gary Horn, Sr. and Sanchez Butler both of Mobile; three daughters, Carolyn Glaspel, Earnestine Enters, and Cynthia Authrey; one brother, Melvin Mitchell; three sisters, Ola Mae Horn, Minnie Mitchell, and Martha Lindsay all of Atlanta, Ga.; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Wanda Sue Cannon McClure

Wanda Sue Cannon McClure, age 57, a homemaker of Linden, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital. She was born June 23, 1950 in Demopolis. She was a member of Linden Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at Linden Baptist Church on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. William L. Harris and Rev. Tony Earl Cannon officiating. Burial was at Linden Memorial Park in Linden.

She is survived by: husband, Harry James McClure; two daughters, Angie McClure (Jim) Pritchett of Decatur and Amy McClure (Jason) Abrams of Demopolis; mother, Mattie Lee Cannon; two brothers, Ronald George (Laurie) Cannon and Kenneth Wayne (Jan) Cannon all of Linden; three grandchildren, Cole Cannon McClure, James Edward Pritchett and Walker Jordan Pritchett; five nephews and nieces, Donnie Cannon, Sheila Cannon Tucker, Brian Cannon, Andy Cannon and Katie Cannon.

Mildred Marie Nichols

Mildred Marie Nichols, age 75, of Birmingham and formerly of Linden, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007 at Ashton Gables Assisted Living in Birmingham. She was born December 6, 1931 in Hugo. She worked as an Executive Secretary and she was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church in Linden.

Funeral services were held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Donald Cannon and Rev. Kenny Malone officiating. Burial was at Linden Memorial Park in Linden.

She is preceded in death by: husband, Charles Melvin Nichols; parents, Charles and Myrtle B. Cannon; and two sisters, Peggy Ann Cannon and Mary Ethel Ratliff.

She is survived by: two daughters and one son, Tina (Bryan) Corr of Oneonta; Charles Michael Nichols of West Point, Miss.; Carol Ann Turner of Linden; two sisters, Nell Q. (Arthur) Noland of Sweet Water and Cheryl Ann (Kenny) Malone of Champion Gate, Fla.; five brothers, Charles Earl (Wynette) Cannon of Prattville; Fred Davis (Susan) Cannon of Dothan; Bobby James Cannon of Linden; Ronald (Felicia) Cannon of Chapin, S. C. and Donald (Janet) Cannon of Johnston City, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Natalie Nichols, Rebecca Zambrano, Christina Turner, Lauren Corr, Michael Nichols, Kelly Corr and Bryan Allen Corr, Jr.; one great grandchild, Riley Zambrano.

William Rodger Raybon, age 55, of Fulton passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007 in Grove Hill. He was born May 6, 1952 in Fulton. He was a lumber salesman with Liberty Building Products in Grove Hill. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at Liberty Baptist Church on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Faircloth officiating. Burial was in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.

He is survived by: wife, Jackie Raybon of Fulton; son, Kyle Raybon of Thomasville; daughter, Kim Wall of Luray, Va.; mother, Trudie Raybon of Fulton; brother, Terry Raybon; grandchild, Brett Wall of Thomasville,

Bobby Dalton Smith

Bobby Dalton Smith, age 68, a truck driver of Sweet Water, died Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Southwest Alabama Medical Center. He was born February 6, 1939 in Lasca. He was a member of Sweet Water United Methodist Church.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by: wife, Evelyn J. Smith of Sweet Water; six sons, James Walter Smith of Pine Hill; Thomas Dalton Smith of Butler; Gerald Charles Smith; Andrew Ranton Spencer Barentine both of Pine Hill; William Henry Barentine; Adam Michael Barentine both of Sweet Water; two daughters, Robin Elizabeth Smith of Pine Hill; Christan Dawn Barentine of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Evey Winston Smith of Thomaston; two sisters, Francis S. Holley of Marianna, Fla. and Caroline Smith of Oklahoma City, Okla.; ten grandchildren.
