Lower Peachtree murder
From Staff Reports

A Lower Peachtree woman was shot and killed Friday night.

Christine Portis, 33, was shot at the home of Linda Faye Whitted on Gillis Pugh Road in Lower Peachtree sometime around 7 p.m., according to the Wilcox County Sheriff's Office.

Whitted was arrested and charged with murder Monday.

The shooting stemmed from an argument between the two women that evening, lawmen said. "the argument started between the two, which escalated into a fight. During the fight, Portis allegedly cut Whitted with a knife. Whitted then went and got a pistol, and allegedly shot at, or shot the victim while she was on the outside of the residence," a Sheriff's Office spokesman reported.

Whitted apparently left her home to go to the Southwest Alabama Medical Center for treatement for her knife wounds, but turned around and went back to her home where she encountered Portis again. "Whitted then shot the victim several times and left the residence," the report stated.

The weapon used was a handgun.

Whitted is currently being held in the Prince Arnold Detention Center in Camden.
