Schools hire new principals
By Arthur McLean Editor

The Thomasville City Schools board gave official approval to the hiring of Kyle Ferguson as the new principal at Thomasville High School Thursday night.

The board also approved Adam Sealy as the next principal of Thomasville Elementary School. Sealy comes from the Clarke County system, where he was hired as a teacher in 2003.

Williams Combs was given tentative approval as the new assistant principal of Thomasville Middle School pending successful completion of the interview process. He replaces Jim Sims who left the school system to take a position in Georgia.

The resignations of Dr. Jeffery Merida and Dr. Brian Clayton were both accepted by the board.

Clint Anderson was transferred from PE teacher to Driver's Education teacher.

Thomas Papworth was hired as a 7th and 8th grade history teacher at TMS, replacing Russell Stephens. Sherry Brewer was hired as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher, replacing Michael Byrd, and Tara Wilson was hired as special education teacher for TES. Wilson was rehired after her contract was not renewed from the previous school year.

Other personnel hired were Donna Reid as clerical aide at TMS, Janet E. Malloy as Child Nutrition Worker at THS, and Danielle Pugh, custodian at TMS.

The board approved the creation of a new teaching position at the alternative school, but no one has been hired for the position yet.

In other business, the board gave authority to superintendent Vic Adkison to make hiring decisions on several positions before the board's next meeting in August.

A seven percent pay raise for all certified teachers (to match state pay increase) was approved and a seven percent of $1,000 raise (whichever is greater) for all support and classified personel was approved.

A bid for kitchen equipment was approved at $18,278 from Mobile Fixtures.

A bid for milk products was approved at $24,781 from Barber's Milk.

A bid for buses was approved at $265,000 for 4 buses from Transportation South Bus Sales.
