Champion dies in work accident
From Staff Reports

Hank Champion of Pine Hill died in a work accident Thursday, July 19.

Champion, who was 51, was fatally injured while trimming a tree at a private residence on Oak Grove Street in Pine Hill.

Hill was working on the tree while in a bucket attached to a boom arm. The tree limb apparently swung into Champion, and then broke the bucket from the boom, according to witnesses at the scene.

Champion fell approximately 30 feet from the boom. Emergency crews worked feverishly at the scene to save Champion. He was moved to the town's depot where he was taken by helicopter to DCH hospital in Tuscaloosa where he was pronounced dead.

Champion's family owned the tree service, called Champion Tree and Debris Removal Service.

He is survived by his wife Eva, one son and two daughters. Full obituary on Page 2.
