Sometime after the fireworks finished wowing Thomasville's visitors for the opening of the Dixie Pre-Majors World Series Friday, vandals snuck into the baseball facilities at Thomasville High School and tried to ruin everyone's fun.

The vandals drove around the field, digging ring-shaped holes out of the turf. Dozens of bags of ice for the event were removed from the coolers storing them and the bags were stacked up on the pavement to melt.

A second cooler full of ice was padlocked and volunteers had to cut it off the cooler to get to the ice.

Decorations were mutilated and stolen from the field area.

Estimates to repair the damage were not available at press time.

Chief Billy Hicks of the Thomasville Police Department said the department is investigating the incident and it does have some leads.

Charlie Anderson, who has been working at the tournament for the past week, said visiting fans have offered there support and offered some interesting ideas for disciplining the vandals if caught.
