World Series recap - Saturday's games Louisiana 7-Tennessee 6 The team from Moss Bluff, Louisiana edged the team from Collierville, Tennessee 7-6 in their opening game of the 2007 Dixie Pre-Majors World Series. Louisiana scored two in the first inning and then added one in the third to go in front 3-0 after three innings. Tennessee fought back picking up two in the fourth and then four in the seventh to lead 6-5 going into Louisiana's final at bat. The boys from the bayou scored one in their turn to knot it at 6-6 and force an extra inning. It was in the bottom of the eighth that they pushed across their final run to post the 7-6 win. Andrew Lafosse working in relief of starter Philip Menou was credited with the win allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one in 1 2/3 innings. Grant Cox, Hunter Esthay, and Tyler Theriot all had two hits to lead the Louisiana offense that picked up nine hits. Joining them with one hit each were; Adam Babineaux, Chase Joubert, and Philip Menou. Ethan Sanderlin and Cameron Finch both logged time on the mound for Tennessee with Finch being charged with the loss. Jeff Wargo led Tennessee at the plate with three hits followed by Cameron Finch, Stephen Sanderlin and Erik Schoenrock with two hits each and Hayden Allen and Hunter Briteliffe with one apiece. Texas 16-North Carolina 0 The team from Kilgore, Texas scored nine runs in their first at bat and then added seven in the fifth inning to defeat the team from East Lincoln, North Carolina 16-0 in five innings. Xavian Sanders, Brandon Terry and Chris Dudley combined to hold the North Carolina offense to only four hits in the contest with Sanders getting credit for the win. Sanders held North Carolina scoreless and hitless in the one inning he pitched striking out one. On offense Timothy Boaze, Trace DeBerry, Chris Dudley and Andrew Ector had two hits each to lead the Texas hit parade. Joining them with one hit each in the 11 hit attack were; teammates Steven McBride, Xavian Sanders, and Brandon Terry. Brandon Bogan, Drew Hilty, Tyler Guess, and Josh Wyant all pulled mound duty for North Carolina with Bogan getting tagged with the loss. Bogan in one inning of work allowed nine runs on six hits, two walks and three hit batsmen. Daniel Courtney, McKenzie Lynch, Tucker Mosely, and Josh Wyant had North Carolina's four hits. Georgia 11-Arkansas 0 Toccoa, Georgia swept pass Sevier County, Arkansas 11-0 in their 2007 Pre Majors World Series opening round matchup. Georgia scored seven in the third to break open a scoreless deadlock and then added one in the fourth and three in the fifth to end the game in five innings. Patrick Jensen went the distance on the mound to pick up the win for Georgia. In five innings he shut out the Arkansas offense limiting them to one hit and three walks while striking out five. On offense Jake Fields and Seddrick Mayfield led the nine hit Georgia attack with two hits each. Joining them with one hit apiece were; Chris Beck, Patrick Jensen, Devon Mayfield, Matt Robinson and Hunter Ward. Dekota Weeks and Anthony Dowdy both saw action on the mound for Arkansas with starter Dekota Weeks getting charged with the loss. In 2 1/3 innings he allowed six runs on five hits and three walks. Cody Doan had Arkansas' only hit in the game. Florida 6-Mississippi 1 The offense for Lakeland, Florida went to work in the fourth inning of their opening round game with the team from Laurel County, Mississippi scoring four runs to break open a 1-1 game. They would add one more in the sixth to put the finishing touches on a 6-1 win. Josh Lucas and Drew Hutchinson combined to hold the Mississippi offense to only four hits with Lucas the starter getting credit for the win. In six and two thirds innings he allowed one run on four hits, two walks and two hit batsmen while striking out three. At the plate Yordy Cabrera and Drew Hutchinson led the Florida offense with two hits each followed by teammates Joey Gillen, Josh Lucas, Brandon Patterson and Kyle Wise with one hit apiece. Andrew Pierce and Brandon Holley pulled mound duty for Mississippi in the game with the starter Pierce being charged with the loss. In his 4 1/3 inning stint he allowed five runs on five hits while striking out five. Picking up one hit each for the Mississippi offense were; Brett Bailey, Brandon Holley, Brett Moss and Colby Reeves. Alabama 6-South Carolina 2 In a game where neither team showed much offense the Southern Timber team based in Hoover and representing Alabama defeated the team from Dentsville, South Carolina 6-2. Alabama scored two in the first to take an early lead only to see South Carolina knot it up with two in the bottom of the second. From there Alabama scored one more in both the fourth and fifth and two in the seventh to put it away. Mitch Holcombe and Will McKay both saw action on the mound for Alabama with McKay pitching 5 1/3 innings in relief to pick up the win. During his relief stint he shutout the South Carolina offense limiting them to two hits and three walks while striking out four. The Alabama offense, which recorded six hits, was led by Danny Brown and Jordan Chism with two hits each while Nick Bili and Mitch Holcombe both added one to the total. Ryan Mercer who started on the mound for Arkansas and worked 5 innings before being relieved by Russell Gahagan, was tagged with the loss. During his stint on the mound he allowed four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out eight.
At the plate Casey Cooper, John Hodge, Jeremiah Jackson and Ryan Mercer all had one hit each for Arkansas.
