By Charlie Anderson Contributing Writer

Tennessee 5-North Carolina 0

Tennessee scored five runs in the fourth inning of a potential elimination game for both themselves and their North Carolina opponent and made it stand up for a 5-0 win. The victory kept Tennessee's hopes for a championship alive but ended the North Carolina run in the tournament.

Erik Schoenrock and Sam Huffstutter combined to shut out the North Carolina offense while holding them to only two hits. Schoenrock, the starter, was credited with the win allowing one hit and striking out two in three innings of work.

At the plate Lane Ferrell had the hot stick for Tennessee collecting three of his team's seven hits. Adding one hit each to the total were his teammates Hunter Britcliffe, Cameron Finch, Steven Sanderlin and Joseph Stovall.

Joseph Wyant and Brandon Bogan both saw action on the mound for North Carolina with Wyant the starter being charged with the loss allowing four runs on four hits and one walk in 3 1/3 innings.

Tyler Guess and Alex Miller had the only two hits for North Carolina.

Mississippi 12 - Arkansas 1

The team from Laurel County, Mississippi scored seven runs in the bottom of the second to break out of a 1-1 tie with their neighbors from Sevier County, Arkansas on their way to a 12-1 win. The win by Mississippi allowed them to live to play another day but at the same time left Arkansas with little else to do but dream about next year.

Catfish Gainey and Chase Knight limited the Arkansas offense to only one run and one hit in the game with Gainey, the starter, getting credit for the win.

Gainey also had a big day on offense for the boys from the Camellia State leading his team with three of their eight hits. Joining him with one hit apiece in the effort were; Tyler Fall, Andrew Pierce, Colby Reeves, Scott Rowland and Weston Stringer.

Chris Choat, Dakota Weeks and Tyler Cribb all logged innings on the mound for Arkansas with Choat, the starter, being charged with the loss. In his one inning of work he allowed two runs on one hit, three walks and one hit batsman.

Bryce Smith picked up the lone Arkansas hit.

Virginia 7-South Carolina 6

In the second day matchup between South Carolina and Virginia it appeared the boys from the Palmetto State had control of the game when they expanded their slim 2-1 lead to 5-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning. Nobody told Virginia that however and they erupted for six runs to get on top 7-5 with South Carolina having one more turn in the bottom of the frame. Although South Carolina did manage to score one more, Virginia was able to hold on for a 7-6 win, eliminating South Carolina.

Gary Walker in relief of starter Chris Walker picked up the win for Virginia allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one in the seventh inning.

At the plate Chris Anderson, Sam Calohan, Gary Crawford, Cody Gibson, Kevin Wade, Chris Walker and Chad Wisecarver all had one hit for Virginia in the winning effort.

For South Carolina it was Jay Griffin who was tagged with the loss allowing three runs on three hits while striking out one in one inning of work. He had followed Casey Cooper and Russell Gahagan to the mound.

On offense Ryan Mercer led South Carolina in the losing effort with three hits while Casey Cooper had two and teammates Andrew Floyd, Russell Gahagan, Jeremiah Jackson, and T. J. McNeill all contributed one.

Texas 7-Louisiana 6

After leading most of the way in their winner's bracket match-up with Louisiana, Texas suddenly found themselves trailing their neighbors 6-5 with one at bat remaining. The turnaround had taken place in the top of the inning when Louisiana had scored three runs to overcome a 5-3 Texas lead. The boys from Kilgore rallied to tie it in the seventh and then pushed one across in the eighth to pick up a hard fought 7-6 win.

It was Trace DeBerry who picked up the win on the mound for Texas working two innings in relief of starter Xavian Sanders. During his stint he allowed three runs on two hits and one walk while striking out two.

On offense five Lone Star State starters recorded two hits each to lead a 13 hit parade. In that group were; Timothy Boaze, Trace DeBeriy, Javarri Kelly, Trevor Moon and Xavian Sanders. Joining them with one hit apiece were; Chris Dudley, Andrew Extor and Will Mixon.

Hunter Esthay, who came on in relief of Grant Cox, was charged with the loss for Louisiana. During his three innings of work he allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two.

At the plate Adam Babineaux led Louisiana with three hits while Skylar Barrentine, Chase Joubert, Andrew LaFosse, Philip Menou and Tyler Theriot all had one hit

Florida 3-Georgia 0

Florida scored once in the bottom of the first and then added two more in the bottom of the sixth to post a 3-0 win over Georgia in a hard fought winners' bracket game on Sunday. It was a case of having enough offense to go along with some outstanding pitching and great defense that allowed Florida to remain undefeated while Georgia fell to 1 and 1.

Cole Springer went six strong innings in a starting role for Florida to pick up the win while Drew Hutchinson working the final inning recorded a save. During his stint on the mound Springer gave up three hits and hit two batters while striking out three.

Ryne Knuthe led the Florida offense with two hits followed by Brandon Barger, Brandon Patterson and Daniel Rockhold with one hit apiece.

Chris Beck, who went the distance on the mound for Georgia, was charged with the loss. During six innings of work he allowed three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four.

Georgia's three hits came from Chris Beck, Jake Fields and Matt Robinson.
