Book club to meet in Camden

A new activity will begin at Black Belt Treasures during the month of September for all avid readers. A book club will be formed which will feature books from the Black Belt Treasures collection. The book club will meet at the Black Belt Treasures Gallery every other month. Membership in the club is free and open to all interested readers. Members will be formed into teams with one team selecting the book for discussion, leading the session, and providing refreshments at the club's bimonthly meeting.

The first book chosen for discussion is Stars Fell on Alabama by Carl Carmer. This book was selected because it is a snapshot of Southern culture in the Black Belt in the 1930's. It is told through the eyes of a University of Alabama professor originally from New York. This book is a perfect fit for everyone's Southern collection.

The first meeting of the book club will be on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Black Belt Treasures Gallery, 209 Claiborne Street, Camden.
